First as a side note: From one of the other threads "Envy" is nvidias installer (nv is pronounced envy)

I think it's an issue with the SATA controller on the ECS. Is the CD/DVD drive internal? IDE? SATA?

Try to ensure that no raid is enabled on the SATA controller then disable SATA completely to see if the disc boots.

Also try downloading and running UBCD to run diagnostics http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

I had some problems last year with my 8800gts, i had to install the proprietary drivers from nvidias site or run vesa. The drivers are very simple to install just download them and run them. In fact i'm sure the new version of ubuntu has an installer for nvidia/ati.

I had a similar problem when trying to boot the Ubuntu liveCD on my system.
After a bit of Googling, you may need to remove "quiet splash" from the GRUB boot line and replace with "break=button".

Mine fails occasionally with this (ends up in a busybox), but I normally reboot and it works again.

Don't forget, once you install, you'll need to edit your menu.lst in /etc/grub/ (I think) to make the boot line change automatic.
