I currently have the Fuji Finepix S9600.
I have the option to get the canon 350D + extra battery + remote + case for £200...

    Simple...
    Should I take the canon?

Keep the fuji and spend the cash on 2gb memcards and top of the range lenses/filters.

The s9600 has a fixed lens, so he isn't going to be able to change it.

350, but only if you are prepared for it to start costing a lot more than £200 when you start buying lenses :0

As someone who upgraded from a Fuji Finepix S602z (a predecessor of the Fuji Finepix S9600) to a Canon 350D, I'd heartely recommend going with the 350D. There is just no substitute for a real dSLR. :)

Even the kit lens will be a VAST improvement in how you can work with your pictures. Personally, I'd choose an entry level SLR over ANYTHING but a little tiny high-quality Point & Shoot if I were buying from scratch. If you like photos, it pays for itself about the first time you pull the shutter release :)

Yep, the kit lens is more than adequate, so don't let my earlier statement put you off.

    Just get it :)
you could probably sell the fuji for not a lot less

Already got a 4gb CF card for the fuji which i belive will slip right into the 350... the problem i have with the fuji is the slow shutter... was at a wedding at the weekend - took a few photos with the fuji which ive been using for about 9-10 months, then picked up some random persons 350 ( they asked me to take a couple of snaps for them) and i must admit the 30 secs i held the 350 felt much better to use then the 9600...

Wanted to buy a flash gun for the 9600, this way i think i can just buy a decent one for the 350 :D

Thanks for the input! just confirmed what i thought and hoped :D

I suggest you get the canon 350d. It is a very good dlsr. I love the uses and built of this camera.

I upgraded from the finepix s6500fd to a nikon D40 and loved it!! would recomend the upgrade but as previously mentioned, expect to spend a lot more in the future on lenses and extra's!

That's one of the problems I had with the S602z. It took ages between button press and shutter release, so what you photographed was inevitably several seconds behind what you intended to shoot. You cannot do motion/action shots with a Fuji. With a dSLR, the shutter release is instant.

350 all the way. I have teh rebel XT withi i believe is the NA version of the 350. Inregardsto lenses deals can be found on ebay and such. But as said above this hobby can get expensive fast. But the kit lense is excellent considering it performance and cost.
