I downloaded the files off of microsoft to make an XP boot disk. the images that came out are .JPG and they need to be .ISO right?

Does anyone know of a safe, clean online converter that will go from JPG to ISO?

you can burn .img with magiciso, or mount it with daemontools and then make a cd-copy (from the virtual drive)

So did you download floppy image files or cd image files?

If they're floppy, you cannot straingtly burn them to cd because cd's use different boot sectors and technologies (el torito) while floppies and HDs use another.

i actually dont know. ive been told that i could actually take the boot files off of a working hard drive. would that be easier then trying to do all of this?

magiciso didnt work out for me. it said that it couldnt locate .img files when the file clearly says: boot1.img

Get all the correct files you need (no confusion involved!) off Bootdisk
Use either of the top two options on that page ;)

If you want a bootable floppy or cd, you need to have the boot sector somewhere. It might be a .bin file or something else, but anyway image files can cotain that boot information so it's just easier to get an image file instead of making your own. (However, MagicISO can be used to merge that .bin file into the image file if necessary.)

.img files are usually floppy images.
