Hey guys I have had some problems recently with my codecs. Whenever I click on a video file in windows, Explorer starts taking 99% of my cpu ressources. The video image is also full of artefacts sometimes and some of them skip a lot. I know that codec packs are full of spyware and I don't want to try them. I am therefore waiting for codecs sugestions from you all thanks
I've always used K-lite codec pack and Media Player Classic. Been having a couple of troubles with Mpegs with MPC at the mo though. VLC player never fails to play anything for me. It's the shiznit.
i have used both xp and vista codec packs available to download from free-codecs.com for years without issue but i always have the fantastically versatile vlc player handy for those tricky files!
All of them? I use K-Light Kodec Pack and Windows Media Player Classic for watchin' ma' non DVD shizzle'.
Another vote for K-Lite Codec Pack (Media Player Classic) + Real/Quicktime Alternative. mplayer or vlc, yet to find something one of those wont play (thou i cant get vlc to play fullstop on my gentoo install)
K-lite Mega codec pack, inc. Real Alternative. plus Itunes and Quicktime i use Windows Media Player Classic for all videos that don't require a playlist, and WMP for all things require playlist (music and some videos)
thanks everyone I'll try CCCP first and if it doesn't fix my problem then I am happy to know there are other alternatives !
K-Lite is one of THE worst codec packs around. Do you really need 6 or 7 codecs that play DivX/XviD? NO. You only need one - ffdshow. Get CCCP (which has ffdshow) and please never look at K-Lite again.
I personally just use ffdshow and AC3filter (just from their official sites) and haven't had a problem, however I'm usually a Divx/XviD user. Depends on what you watch, those two do me fine but perhaps if you have more variety CCCP will serve you better
