Hardware prices on the 8800gt line seam to be dropping pretty fast and I think I may take advantage of the sale's going on at the moment.
    PNY for 140.00

    BFG for 120.00
    http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10720BD5102&vpn=BFGE88512GTOCE&manufacture=BFG Technologies
    xfx for 150.00
    http://forum.ncix.com/forums/index...._id=26780&msgcount=2&overclockid=0#msg1703514

So the BFG is the cheapest but as far as I am aware xfx is a better brand name. I dont know anything about pny.
bfg is a lifetime warrenty, pny is 3 years and I dont see anything for the xfx so I would assume its at least 3 years.

    What brand would you buy?
the bfg looks good with the lifetime warrenty but id rather buy a better brand and not need the warrent at all.

well i would eliminate pny and go between the BFG and the xfx, the bfg is already slightly overclocked and i think regardless of brands you can still have a problem so i would just go with the bfg and that way you can have an overclock that is still covered under a lifetime warranty.
so i say go for bfg
    *cheaper
    *overclocked
    *lifetime warranty

also i can't remember correctly but doesn't bfg have a step up program now?

ok, sorry for the double post but I need someone to tell me that I deserve to spend a little more money on myself.
EVGA 9800gtx for 280.00 cdn. Its normally 380.00 cdn.
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=29502&vpn=512-P3-N872-AR&manufacture=eVGA
the cheapest 8800gtx on the same website seams to be 450.00
So getting a slightly better card for a lot less is a good deal right? i'd be crazy not to get this right?
Except that I only really need the 8800gt, and that card costs a lot less.
    So,
    after reading this thread:
    http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=152876
I should just do it right? why the hell not, spend the money I really dont have, thats what credit cards are for, and my girlfriend is leaving me (with our dog :waah: ) and my dream career just got a lot farther away, I should give something to myself right? right?

    Or...
Ati is about to come out with their new product line, which may drives prices lower. So I could wait and see what happens then... but running on the 1950 pro is starting to get old...
Sigh, I hate making decisions like this.

Sorry to hear about your dissolving real life, but I guess it's fair to say you deserve to treat yourself to a mild pick-me-up if alcohol is not an option.

I don't follow the GeForce family, so I'm not much use as far as recommendations go. But, logically, the deal on the 9800 GTX is something to take up on, especially when prices for display cards have remitted across the entire market this past month.

It's new. It's fast. And it's bizarrely cheap.
