Another night gone, and more modding done!

So, about that PSU extension cable... It will indeed connect the motherboard to the PSU (obviously), but exactly why it's needed may not be as obvious. It goes without saying that things are very tight in this case. One of the problems with that, is the fact that it's pretty much impossible to attach the PSU cable to the motherboard with the hard drive tray in place. That also means that I can't remove the PSU without pulling the tray out as well. That simply won't do. I want to be able to remove things individually whenever possible. Things may be tight, but I still want easy maintenance. So, the extension leaves me with plenty of extra cable, and the excess has to go...

My last little project for the night was to sleeve the pump wiring, and add a new power connector. The new connection has a straight shot right in to the PSU.



Tonight I apply the power, and fill with coolant!

Just a microscopic update here... Coolant is now circulating, although I haven't powered the rig on yet. Getting air out of this loop requires some tricky maneuvering. All seems to look good, and everything is leak free so far...

With the liquid flowing, I thought I'd work on a small detail or two. Aluminum tubing! I decided that I didn't want to look at exposed bolt threads. Well, there's only one way to fix it! (The fan assembly will get the same treatment).

I cut and lightly polished some tubing...



Much better than before! It's all in the details!

 

I have used that tubing before as spacers. Work much better than stacking washers on top of each other lol especially when you have 20mm of height to add.

 

I've said it before and i'll say it again...you cant stop...that part was finished...those are things that only you see...
i've would have never noiteced that the bolts were exposed as you say...you are crazy for details...

So, i go away for a few months and think 'I wonder how Rogue is coming along..' and what do you know, as soon as i looked at the updates, i had to clean my glasses. really. i thought i'm seeing things
dude, i'm out of words. top class work. i believe there isn't a single part in this that wasn't altered in some way...

btw, knowing the trend around here (bit-tech), i'm starting to think, what what's the next project is going to be like?

Yeah, the tubing is great. I'm sure if I tried to use washers, I'd end up with a dozen of them sitting in the bottom of the case...

That's one of my weaknesses... I can't leave well enough alone. I'm constantly tweaking. Normally it's not a big deal, but I've got a deadline here!

Luckily my parts are still decent enough, but you're right, they're getting dated already. It'll tide me over until Nehalem at least...

Thank you! This project has been much bigger than I thought it would be. I'm always thinking ahead though. So yes, I've got my next project planned. It's fully scratch built, and will make the Rogue look simple by comparison...

 

It's time for the front door! Yes! I've been wanting to say that for months now! Everything else was so much more important, while the door was mostly cosmetic. I say mostly, because it will hold a modified Griffin Powermate for controlling the Pico system. So, what am I waiting for?

I'll start off with a few shots of the PSU in place. My last update involved the modification of it's cables. With that done, it was time to drop it in to place, and fire it up. Everything worked as it should! As you can see here, things are still very tight, but very much improved thanks to the shorter cables.





Now, on to the door. I need to put 'filler' strips around all the openings in the case. The easiest way to do this, was by cutting acrylic to size.

I got a lot done last night, but still have more to cut. I'm hoping to make huge progress tonight. Stay tuned!
