    UPDATE 31st MAY

WOOOHOOO nominated for mod of the month everyone :D

It's a real honor for me especially with all the great mods out at the moment so don’t forget to vote for L3 if you like my mod.

Back to the mod though… IT"S A BIG ONE!

I haven’t had time to mod over the last few days as I’ve had a bit of a family emergency but luckily I’ve had a few different things that I’ve been working on during the last month that are starting to come together and are now ready to be shown.
    So here we go.

    RESERVOIR:

So the reservoir that I’ll be using is an old Thermaltake one that I have lying around for a while that I didn’t end up using on my current rig.

I think these are highly underrated as they are really well built and quite good looking in my opinion.

As you can see the Reservoir already comes with a spot for a 3mm LED on the right but I don’t think that is enough to get the effect that I’m looking for so I went out to make 2 holes for some 5mm LEDs that I wired up.

I wired up the switch so that I have the option to turn the LEDs off if need be because the light may get on my nerves during the late night web surfing stints we net addicts do.

With the LEDs wired up it was time to make the LED support holes in the reservoir.
Here’s the original 3mm hole up close.

I used a Dremel round engraving tip for this and I must admit it was a lot easier to do than I thought.

All that was needed was a very steady hand and some patience.

    Fits like a glove ;)

    With both done.

And last but not least here’s the all important UV test shots :D

    And close up

    Came out just perfect.

    FRONT:

After that teaser photo here is what I have done so far.
If you cast your mind back to the first page of the log you’ll see that I am planning on having a two way mirror for the front of the case ala AC Ryan mirror acrylic and I want a nice clean finish with most details hidden and definitely no screws showing. It’s a little hard to explain but I think the pictures will give you a good idea of what I mean.

First things first, I cut out a piece of aluminum to size.

    From this.

    To this.

Then I marked out the centre for the circle cut and holes for the Scyth Kama master which already uses this two way mirror technique that I want to accomplish.

With the knobs off for proper measurements.

Don’t forget to make a pilot hole before you use a circular saw as it makes it a whole lot easier
    [IMG]

And then we’re left with this.

Now that’s accurate drilling right there :D

This is roughly what I want to have at the end when the mirror acrylic is fitted. You will only see the reservoir when it lights up from behind the mirror once the UV LEDs light up.

last bit for the moment was the cut out for the Scyth display and the stealth DVD-RW tray (I’m using an old CD-RW as a template).

So there you have it guys, this update took quite a while but hopefully gives you a better idea of where the mod is going.
I hope you guys all enjoy the update and as usual all comments are welcome, see you soon.

Nice work with the LEDs. Oh you got one of those Scythe fan controllers (from PC Case Gear???). I really like the look of them. Let me know how well it works.

Congrats on the MoM nomination :D

Just a few questions, if you don't mind. Where did you get the aluminum, how thick is it, and how much did it cost? I'm thinking of making my own radgrill but it seems like that much worth of aluminum is going to cost just as much as a store bought radgrill.

Also, you mentioned bending all the aluminum by hand. What's your technique for that?

Yeap that's the same one although I got mine from Performance Pc's about a month or so before they had it which kind of sucks now that I can get it in Aus now lol. I'll definately post some pics of it once it's all up and running.

I've had the aluminum for a long while as I bought it as a big 2400x1200cm, 1mm sheet for $45 at the time I think and I bought it from a place that just sells aluminum.
I'll try and post some pics of the bending technique soon but essentially I just got 2 L shape thick steel coreners facing away from eachother fixed on one side to a vice and with a screw on the other side. Then it's just bending the aluminum a couple of degrees at a time rather than trying to get the right angle straight away which results in a curve. Instead give hard quick pushes almost like your shacking someone and make sure that majority of the force is at the bottom of the bend.

Thanks for all the support guys! It's great to see that there are so many people on here that are enjoying my mod and thaks to everyone that voted for my mod.

I've been working on the mounting system for the massive front bay cover as like I said I want it to be a very clean look and not to give anything away untill the lights go on and you can see exactly what's there. I think i'm getting there and I can't wait untill I can show you the full effect.

At the moment it's way to cold to go out in my freezing shed but I'll post some pics of the progress as soon I have some time.

There is some bending in it too so I'll be sure to make a nice guide for Cheezeit as well.

    Seeya all soon.

Hey all, Sorry for the lack of updates this month but it's been a really big month for me at work and I also had my current rig die on me (PSU and Mobo) :waah: . Good news is that i've now bought most of the internals for the new rig and i'm using my old case for the meantime. Will post some pics and updates within the next few days hopefully.

Thanks for the interest guys. Sorry for the lack of updates but it's been real hectic with work and at home so and when I do finally get some time (at night) it's raining and around 4 degrees outside. As i've said before my shed is not lacking on the ventilation department with all the holes and you absolutely freeze in there so I'll get back on with this shortly when it's not as cold atleast.

@ icutebluezone: The drive bay cover is held like a normal CD-ROM with screws, it's not completely finished yet but I'll post more as soon as I can.

Thanks again all for the continued interest during such a long stint of no updates.

Well the weather starting to get a bit better so I restarted work just the other day. Not nearly enough to warrant an update just yet but as soon as I get some time and some good weather I'll be back on to it.

Trust me i'm getting really gittery about it myself LOL.
