I've just ordered a shiny new samsung 22" widescreen monitor from my aging 17" standard monitor

Really lookingforward to it but i'm worried that my XFX 256mb 8800GT will not be up to the task of powering it. at most i have £100 budget for a new card, do i try selling my 8800 to up my budget to around £150 and get a 512mb 9800GTX or do i get another 8800GT (possibly 512mb not just 256) and go SLI?

Have you thought about getting an ATI radeon 4850?
As seen HERE, the ATI radeon 4850 performs better at 1680x1050 (22" resolution)
than the 9800gtx. The 1GB 4850 is also slightly cheaper than the 512mb 9800gtx...

    ATI Radeon HD 4850
    Nvidia Geforce 9800 gtx

8800GT is fine upto this resolution, upgrade when you feel laggy.

by the time you feel laggy with 8800GT, there's something better comes out that's more suited than 4850.

8800GT's fine for me at 1920x1200, apart from crysis, but that's not exactly engaging...

I think the 8800GT is a great card and im in no rush to get rid of it, my concerns were that i've seen reports on other sites that the 256mb version i have can't cut it at higher resolutions, especially in games. That is what i'm most concerned about

4850 is a great buy, just make sure you get the 512MB ;)

I'd wait until you have the cash for a 4870 which hopefully will drop in price when the 4870X2 comes out (and in that time Nvidia will have staged a further 3 or 4 price drops... :eyebrow:)

As said by some others, a new 4850 is a good idea. Whether your current card has enough memory is difficult to call, and more verging on the side of "no". Don't get another 8800GT. If you SLI a 512MB card with a 256MB card, you will get the power and memory of the inferior card.

I would recommend 8800GT, you can check out some reviews on this card here.
