@AsSuLuTo, welcome to the forum. Well I'd say your doing great for your first component keep it up bro!

Now a few things to think about.....
-Your "caps" in white, can be set a little more darker or a shade of gray. As it is now they kinda look unfinished compared to the rest of the model. Some of them are a little off center but that can also be an image problem too.
-Details are everything, or at least as much as you can get away with. That said detail come with a price...the more you have the bigger your file size grows.
-Try completing the rest of the heat sinks and pipes. Gives it a more completed look.

Can wait to see more of your work...well done.:thumb:

Well just finished a new component to add to the collection.

ATI RADEON HD 4870X2 Graphic Card
    [IMG]
    File Size: 4.47Mb

Jez should have it up soon, thanks bro.

Remember my little motorbike...well I fine tuned it a bit and experimented with some lighting.

Modeled in SU then rendered in KT. Might be a tad dark as I'm still adjusting my new 24" monitor and experimenting with lighting in KT. Still a WIP but very close now.

Yeah...Jay would ride something like that or it could be the next superhero bike for a movie. Thanks for the comments guys...just using my imagination.

What scared me is how good that 4870X2 card came out, looks almost real and that's just rendered in SU. Had a bit of a problem with the image mapping it wasn't prefect but I managed to get very close to accurate as possible. BTW is model is all grouped in sections...the fan, heat-sinks, cooling plate and housing are one group. The cooling plate on the other side of the card is another group and the card itself is the last group which is a clean image that means you are able to see the GPUs, memory and all the bear naked card details on both sides.

I guess I'll have to try a GeForce GTX 280 card next which seems a little more easier to do cause the card is basically covered by the plastic housing. I just need to fine some good top shots of the card and some accurate measurements...any one got this card and would like to share some info...big thanks in advance.:thumb:

@DarthDVD, that Soundgraph Utlra Bay looks pretty straight forward. Have you tried to recreating it on your own? If I can swing it I'll try giving it a go later...but no promises.;) You just have to pay me One Million Dollars (pinky finger on side of mouth!!!):naughty:

Just wondering Scooby, how do you manage to get those finer details? Do you own the item, or is there somewhere where you can find some uber hi res images?

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it. Again an exercise in design and imagination, I still can't believe I made that.

@Dark~3nergy, yeah I wanted to make the bike look more streamlined and almost fluid. The first time I rendered the bike in KT I was blown away at the result and I said to myself "this is going to be bad-a$$ once it's done".

@ComputerKing, "KT" around here is short for Kerkythea, Kerkythea 2008 Echo to be exact. Kerkythea is one of a few free rendering programs that work with SketchUp "SU" models and as you can see it is one hell of a rendering program. At the link provided you will find tutorials, guides, downloads and the forum that I have used a lot for reference. I'm still learning how to master this great program, so I guess I'll do it like I did with SU...practice, practice and more practice.

@modgodtanvir, when creating this kind of models finding a good image hi-res or not will make or break you presentation. I usually hit the review sites and if your lucky you'll find great pics but even better you find a reviewer that takes great shot of a motherboard or graphic card that they take apart. If I can't find any good images I head to NewEgg.com they always have great images to work with.

Another program I use is Photoshop (who doesn't) to sharpen the images if they need it. Cropping the image is very important too as it reduces the footprint of the photo and makes it easier to work with in SU.

Well I hope the bike gives you some inspiration to go for it, take your time and if you have any questions just post it here. I'm sure WE can find the answer together.

Depending on the lighting setup the longest render took about 2hrs. Thats with PhotonMap - High - AA 0.3 setting.

Done some more work on the DFI motherboard, the NB and Power heatsinks are modelled now, added decent looking caps and gone in to a bit more detail, should hopefully get it finished by the weekend :)

@AsSuLuTo, that's my boy!!! I'm so proud, I feel like a dad watching his son ride his bike for the first time...then crashing.:naughty::D Seriously, job well done bro.:thumb:

Your heat sinks and pipes turned out great. Tip: When using your "Erase" tool hit and hold down the "shift" key. It will hide (not delete) unwanted line that you click on. Like the one around your heatpipes, you'll end up with a more smooth looking tube no more sectioned line to see.

Do I see slots on the PCI and PCI-E slot headers, excellent detail work. Are all the pins on your IDE slot yellow too? Am I loosing my hair? AsSuLuTo we will be expecting good things from you. Keep it up.:thumb:

    Oh! Get one of these....

Only if you need to be very accurate. I have that same one got it from harborfreight.com. Great tool.

@tominated, my first attempt uploading at the SCC site I don't know if Jez got it. I will try to send it to Jez directly the old fashion way. He'll get it up soon for everyone. Thanks Jez.:naughty:

I've got some digital calipers already! :)

The pins in the connector are gold but the colour on the outside is a similar kind of yellow/orange colour...either that or I got a bit trigger happy with the paint tool (whoops!). I think I've got a fair bit to learn though as I've only ever used sketchup for designing my flat and nothing really too detailed.

Right on!!! Your set. It must be the picture, hard to see color details when it is that small. Well as you start getting more familiar with SU I can just imagine how your next flat design will come out.

    hey,

scooby, lol, 2hours that's long for me it never takes more then 30mins(but I don't have as many lights and chrome as you have).

    here's my next model,
    the asus p5e vm hdmi,

soon finished, probably tomorrow, then I'll submit it to the scc.

and I'd like to know if you think that my models are to detailed, so I doesn't slow everything down.
If so, I'll start making lower poly version of them.
