I saw a man claiming to be the president of the United States on the news earlier saying something like "This is a hurricane, and those are dangerous, ..., etc." clearly experience has taught him well. I notice the Gov't are furiously avoiding getting caught with their pants down again this time, which is good because at least there will be some aid to those who need it, in a timely manner. Are many people staying in defiance of the evacuation? We saw on the news people loading suitcases into coaches and leaving, so I'd imagine there are those that didn't want to leave everything behind and decided to stay, especially further inland. 'Grab what you can and fook off sharpish' can't be very fun.
Stay safe. We're in Tuscaloosa, if you gotta get out we got floor. Lived 4.5 years in Mobile, I know EXACTLY what you're doing. If you need to evacuate, and need a place, PM me.
You fogot about Mt. Spur which likes to rumble once in a while. I was in Anchorage as a kid when it erupted (i think it was in 92). Had to wear little masks outside because breathing ash isn't very healthy.
i got my house boarded up yesterday...we are nice and safe in the fire station....but what sucks is i have to work through this all
CNN says 2 MILLION people have left the building! That's for all the coast, not just New Orleans. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/weather/2008/08/31/cooper.lok.gustav.nola.cnn John
Mmm. My mother and younger sisters are all away in Cuba at the moment right where Gustav is passing over and have been out of contact for the last three days apparently but because I've been on holiday I didn't hear about any of this in the news. :s
