Is there anywhere you can tell it where to download and install stuff too, I can't find it for the life of me
purposefully keep my system drive separate from applications, though on investigation I thin it downloads and installs stuff where it is, so all is good, just not very flexible or transparent
I did that by default, so was heartened when I learned it keeps itself to itself, it's just not very flexible or transparent, as I mentioned
Steam in itself is portable - you can just install steam (or cut/paste an existing installation) on to your Apps partition/drive.
If it does need anything, it's re-added by itself when you run it again. My steam directory is the original one from when HL2 was first released, has survived countless OS re-installs/pc upgrades
Wait - he installed steam to the portable drive, or just the game file? Is that possible? And how are gaming speeds via USB?
For sure, I have moved my whole steam folder around countless times and have it saved on a backup HDD. Though I am not a huge fan of my games being saved in 0s and 1s in a folder and prefer a DVD I have to say I really do enjoy not having to install them all. So far, since Steam launched, So good! My friend runs his from a USB drive (something about him and OS's that just doesn't work, always reinstalling) and while not a serious gamer of any sorts has never complained.
I'll be testing that as I've just reinstalled... When installing Steam onto antother PC and entering my account, not a single one of my games appeared :-( Backuped the old folder though, so I'll be trying that
Yea. It would be more worth having if you could add games to it that you've previously bought on disc like you could do with Prey. Still great though. They do need to strip back the interface though. I would rather they skinned it to fit the operating system as opposed to trying to make it individual. Apple can be accused of that too. It does nothing but slow the program down so I see no point.
It's great usually, although right now the steam servers seem to be too busy for me to download my games : / Been like it for the last few days.
