HOLY CRAP!!!! DUDE you are kidding me for sure? that is a real case? dude are you sure that not 3D!!!! BAMMMMMMMMMMMMMM You just blow my brain. I don't know what to say. well done buddy good job.
hey, quick question; how much experience in metal working/wiring/fabricating did you have before you started this endeavor to make such an amazing case? like, do you have i-worked-on-a-car-with-my-dad experience, etc. Thanks, it looks amazing! I love the fact that it looks so....refined. Entirely too many mods look like they were attacked by a kid with a box of crayons, and should only be allowed to exist among kin at an LAN convention. Yours......beautiful. I read pages 1-15, saw it was midnight, and skipped to 31 (the picture page). O.O [speechless] eagle ps. My new G5 case is in the mail. It's going to be a long journey....
I don't usually post in this side of the forum, but this is just incredible. The quality of the whole mod simply oozes class; it really reflects on the time and effort you spent on it. Kudos, man.
Thanks for the great response. I'm really glad people like the mod. It's not big and flashy (well maybe the chrome is slightly bling ) and still resembles a PC case. It turned out just as i imagined it when i started 2 years ago. Understated, natural beauty is my thing. Damn you've a sharp pair of eyes there Burnout. Basically i was getting occasional bluescreens and wanted to test out my theory: that the card wasn't sitting properly. It turns out that i was correct - i think the mobo tray has bent slightly with all the component swapping i have been doing. Not a big issue and it will be fixed shortly. I havn't had any prior experience in metalwork, fabricating or wiring. That's why you will see so much trial and error in the log and why i probably didnt use the most appropriate tools for certain bits of it. My current PC is watercooled so i did have experience with setting that up and i have been a PC enthusiast for over 10 years. I basically read up on loads of forums about the best way to go about things e.g. i followed Bill's painting tutorial over at mnpctech to the letter to get the black mirror paint finish. The LED wiring i got help with from guys on the forums here. Good luck with the build! I hope you're going to log it here on Bit-tech. Cyp.
I've submitted your mod to Million-Dollar-PC because you took some professional photos of the cleanest case mod I've seen so far. -Indybird
Final shots look fantastic. Perfect balance between the stock case and the "tweaks" you pulled off. Looks very much factory standard, I like that. Turned out beautifully my friend. I also submitted this log to Million Dollar PC.
just slap a thumb screw in for the final shots and rip it out when finished, or put some more pressure on the mobo mounting screws to try and force it flat.
I read this modblog again and again.....and I can't find words about your work! Perhaps like that: freakin' awsome, unbelievable! This is my favorite mod!
Thanks guys. I now have a proper photgrapher's backdrop (black) and hopefully a 1m squared piece of perspex is being delivered as we speak so I should be able to take some more case shots on Sunday. Cyp.
I know it's kind of late - but there has been some interest in getting rid of the alum. anodizing and polishing our G5 and other alum. cases so I posted a link to a polishing tutorial in the modding section under Modding Guides - The Index. These dudes polished a shuttle until it will hurt the eyes. Great work Cyprio, can't wait for more shots.
I love this mod, everytime I check in on this thread I have to stop myself from running over to ebay and placing like 8 bids on G5 cases. Great mod and congrats Cyprio!
That's actually the mod that gave me the idea to do the G5 that way. I remember the Picatchu toy. I reckon it's quite a bit harder on the G5 though as its very well coated and takes AGES! I still think i damaged my right arm sanding it... I needed to go right down to 60 grit as nothing else would remove the top layer in any quantity. Having used 60 it then takes that much longer to get up to 2500. Cyp. ps doesnt look like i can do any pics this weekend after all as they havent delivered the Perspex.
Perspex arrived this week so will be doing shots tomorrow along with some internal ones that a certain other website has asked for... Cyp.
This is the best of the lot today. It's incredibly hard not to get any reflections even using a 1m by 1m piece of perspex and a huge black material background! I need more practice with the lighting sources though. The only PS effect here is using a gradient on the reflection. The rest is as is. Does anyone know if you can get the Aquaero to load a profile upon boot. If you look closely you can see the "lufter..." image which i think means fan in german. Cyp.
