Graphics 8800GS SLI or not?

    recently my mate bought a new graphics card and he is selling it for £30

    shall i buy it? to do SLI or wait for a bit?

    I'm a bit struggle on Crysis warhead with high settings or Gamer setting tho :( like 20fps

    please help :eyebrow:


    Spec:

    E6600 @ 2.4 can go up to 3.2 if needed

    4GB PC-6400 800mhz

    500W thermaltake ( also im worrying about the power :( if i do SLI )

    680i mobo

    Galaxy 8800GS

    running on XP atm

    Honestly, the 8800GS aren't very great cards, the SLI would help, but your better off spending more money and getting a higher end card that will last you longer, and you'll be happy you bought it when you see it absolutely slaughter that gs in performance.

    For 30 quid id have a go for sure, in supported games your going to get a big boost as your fairly gpu limited in top games.

    They arent the most demanding cards power wise so you may get by on the 500w PSU, though it would be about its limit.

    thanks for the reply guys

    ive forgot to mention that i got a 20inch monitor and running 1680x1024 on games so :p

    anymore idea :D? i tried google and there isnt a review about SLI becnhmark with crysis

    could you not overclock your current card, lots of the 8800gs get up to 35% overclocks! If you had two of then at decent overclocks then I'd have thought they'd be ok

    ye i do overclock my card :) but still get 20 fps around in crysis war head with CPU 3.0ghz GPU 750/1600/1000

    £30 for SLI'd 8800's sure i would! even tho the 8800GS is the baby of the 8800 family it'll still do well. Plus you can go around with an SLI e-peen!

    i think SLI is only worth it with 2 high end cards from the word go, then sell one off as it starts to drop.

    why link two poor cards when the price point of a single high end is within reach

    If you can afford it and the sli bridge then go for it.
