The top strip would look best if you have a similar strip in the front like in the radio. That way it would look like the strip ran continuously around the case. Without an element pulling the design together, the top strip could look out of place.

I agree. I have a plan to run the strip down the front until it hits the top of my yet completed circle. I might even continue it down the back but I don't really want to cover up any of the burl.

How about two thinner strips that line up with the outer edges of the circle. It would be easier to fit to the round roof curve. (I see you chopping a flat area in the top already in my mind.)

Thanks for the input. I have been analyzing close-up photos of the radio and have determined that the top strip actually follows the curve of the roof. The curve is almost non-existent at the peak so it looks deceiving. I can always flatten it out later by sanding to make it look absolutely flat on top.

I offer this photo to show the completed circle. Ignore the red circle. That's just me fooling around. What will actually end up in the middle of the circle? Hmmm......suggestions?

Looks like a Halon Fire Suppressant knob in a data center. Whack that bad boy to put out fires.
Never did get to try one - sigh.

A little assistance for the aged and reading impaired.

I've done the knob thing before...twice...so I'm looking to do something else.

If you were doing watercooling, that could be the reservoir..... with red coolant. :p

I could think of a big analog gauge which shows e.g. harddisk activity and/or cpu usage.

An antique brass porthole with bubbling sloshing RED fluid would be groovy. Maybe fake a watercooling system with only pump and reservoir 'cause I can't imagine anyone watercooling a VIA processor.

A vintage Weston-type ammeter is high on my list of potentials I am having difficulty finding exactly what I need. I found a place that sells just the Bakelite shell of a round Weston meter.....Hmmm...that might tie into Bodd's idea. (Tie into? Man, I gotta stop watching the wife's TV shows.)

Projecting only the color red I'm sure. There would be red everywhere. Reminds me of that time in Amsterdam....

One more vote for big red button.

For reference...the red "button" is exactly 3" across and is made from the same color wood as the grill. I wanted to see a distinct contrast so I reached for the first can of spray paint I found. Could have been teal.

The red button will end up being gloss black which will "tie into" and "bring together" the gloss black footer. That way everything will flow....:wallbash:

Yep and Langer has a watercooled pico-ITX which is even smaller.

You sir overestimate the sanity of the Bit-Tech community.

    jhanlon303's watercooled jetway C7.

I really like the analogue gauge idea - or using it as a projection screen... I used to have a clock that projected the time on the ceiling, something like that would be very cool. On that note - a TEAL button you say? Now that would be a sight to behold, lol.

I know about your watercooling adventures. I just thought I would shake you guys out of your tree.

One the ways I measure progress in a project is what grade of sandpaper I'm using. I have just transitioned into the 220 phase.

    Larger Version

Here is my homemade sanding tool. Basically a wide sheet of sandpaper clamped onto a very straight, flat, square stick. I make rowing motions back and forth across the roof surface to keep everything smooth and level. I am sanding the sealer off the case in preparation for the first lacquer coat.
