I have made such a project before. I used MDF (thats how its called in Dutch, probably the same material that youre using now. I can see it because thare is no structure in the wood). If you got any questions, i can help (in Dutch).

Are u gonna brace the inside of the right angles to add support ? like with angle molding stock ? Or are u going to use the metal on the outside ?
