    He is Langer. [IMG]

He is probably out of the country scouting/manufacturing things to make us weep! :waah:

No updates today, I'm tired from my journey... pics tomorrow.

While in Cali there's been progress:
The carbon panels are being cut and shipped back to me, the copper pieces follow shortly thereafter.

My new mobo, RAID card, and BBU have arrived.

I also just got word that my Grandfather finally passed on a few short hours ago. A magnificent life topped off with a tragic final decade.

As much as I just want to relax in my own bed after all the traveling I've been doing the past month, I'll be off on the road again ~700KM north to Sault Ste Marie this Monday to prepare for the funeral (700KM! north... in January... in Canada... bad idea! My drag racer wasn't built with 10' of snow @ -35deg C in mind).

From what i understand, in no means do i want this to sound bad, but this must be a relief on you and your family, and yet a very sad time. May he chase the hot nurses where he now starts his next life.

I think the drag racer would be fun in snow, get the exhaust so hot it melts the snow before you get near it! lol!

700Km what that in english err 430 miles, i've done that in an old volvo in winter with a broken heater and broken exhaust, dang that was loud!

Nail on the head Burnout... over a decade in a geriatric asylum due to the severity of his Alzheimer's. I'm my book he hasn't lived for 10years... but it's different when it actually happens.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Much appreciated.

    I'll share some progress later.

I snapped some quick pics of the new hardware and replacement motherboard (I've actually had this stuff for about a week now). I'll be flying north this afternoon.

Here's the Highpoint RocketRAID 3510 with a Highpoint BBU-03 battery backup unit installed:

Those SSD's will fly on that controller. Without it...:grr:

I understand about your grandfather; mine passed on this summer. He would be 96 years old now! So sorry for your loss.

Good call on the BBU for that controller. It can be a lifesaver (or datasaver as the case may be). I remember a client that was too cheap to by the BBU for the SCSI RAID controller he bought. Suffered an unexpected shutdown, and all of the data had not finished writing to disk. After restoring from a 5 day old backup tape, he was not a happy camper.

The lesson? Any RAID controller with write caching REQUIRES a BBU. :)

BBU, backup battery unit? Dose the battery keep the card running to complete the file transfer, if so dose that mean the scsi card have a huge cache to temp store the infomation.

It keeps the cache alive. If the power goes out and it is in the middle of writing then it can cause errors as the data becomes corrupt as half of it is missing. The BBU lets the cache be stored even after loss of power so when power is restored it can finish writing what was in the cache.
