The thought just occurred to me as I looked upon my game/dvd shelf for a film to watch this eve. And when I did I saw the game that I had been looking forward to anxiously for several years, spending hours reading forums, waiting for updates from EA as to when the release date would be.. And now I realise that this game, which I still think is really impressive, has been gathering dust for a couple of months now..

Is Spore lacking the continuous playability that we were so promised? Or is it just me... I've just not been motivated at all to play it.

    Thoughts?

Pissed off that I paid for the special edition.

My other half's Mother has got it now - not even she plays it anymore.

Not even installed right now. Each stage is simply too weak. space was a nusance.

Not played it after the week it came out. Got to the space age, hard drive died while playing it, after re-installing, started again, got to space stage in one playthrough and got bored of that after a while. Just too simplified from what we were previously shown, waste of money, was an expensive game too as far as PC games go.

Got quite far into it and was fair enjoying it. Only to find that it hadn't saved the game properly and I was dumped at the start of the tribes stage.

Spore? hmm let me think... oh yes, that thing down there at the bottom of the pile of games.
I have to admit, I was excited before its release, but with each stage it just got worse and why are there even stages to start with? Where is the freedom of choice? it was dumbed down and restricted to the point that a 3 year old could play it through in a single day.
Funniest thing is, people where complaining about limited number of installs, the game quality actually prevents you from installing and playing it more than once, so you will never hit the limit set by the drm.

A proper damp squib tbh - I played up to the start of the tribal stage. Got bored of that, skipped to space, played that for about half an hour, then got totally, skullcrushingly bored with it.

Good job I didn't pay for it, borrowed it from the GF instead thankfully.

I played it actually quite intensely for a few weeks after I got it. First play through, got to the space stage and got bored. Second play through played for quite a while on the creature stage (by far the most fun) and became the hardest mother-f*cking creature imaginable (unlocked every body part, maxed out every stat, even killed an epic creature with my bare hands), and then didn't play it any more. Such a shame, could have been soooo good.

Do you guys think it's just because there's no real challenge to the game?

That and it's way too repetitive.

    It's just boring.
Got to the space stage after a fair amount of playing, then you realise the space stage just goes on.. and on... and on....
    Boring.

Which wouldn't be too bad if there were things to do other than:

    a) fight ships on trade routes
    b) fight ships on planets
    c) terraform a planet
    d) kill infected animals

Which also aren't bad.. except they happen so frequently that you're never able to do anything but those boring repetitive events.

Yeah it's the combined lack of depth and challenge that ruin this game, it's just 5 different games stripped and crammed together.

Personally I think the idea was fine but instead of having having massively cut back games in one you could have had 5 individual games that allowed you to carry your creatures through released over the course of 18 months or so.

That would have allowed for depth in each stage.

And she has my copy! I forgot that I am so disinterested in playing the game.

Got to the space stage and got bored.

    Clever, but ultimately crap.
