Nope, they're too big - I specified the larger ones as I knew I wanted them in the centre of the dash, just like 30's style sportscars had them.

The other thing to realise is that the cockpit is small - it only a tad over a meter wide at that point. Sitting in the car in a similar position to where my seat will be has shown me that I can see everything clearly.

Fair enough I s'pose, I just prefer them the other way.

Would you rather not have the shift light right in front of you? I know you said you can see everything clearly, but would it not be even clearer there?

Possibly. To be honest, I'm in two minds as to actually have a shift light.

It's in the position it is at the moment to balance out the hazard light, and to have it next to the tacho. There's a paragraph in the SVA manual saying that warning lights tied to instruments should be in close proximity to them to avoid confusion...

Again, it's in my peripheral vision... But it's position isn't set in stone. That's why it's only paper at the moment. :)

Personally, I like it, everything seems logical, and for the style and readability you can't have stuff above the wheel past indicator lights. On the shift light, I vote yes, why not?

    Centre clocks for the win!

Love all old school cars with them there, and i know what goo is talking about viewing restrictions through the steering wheel, i did a similar mockup with the mini drawing the area what i could see from my seat, through the wheel on the dashboard and arranged them accordingly ;)

Looks awesome so far mate, keep it up and keep the worksmanship to as high as it is :D

I would put the rev counter and shift light behind the steering wheel, and the rest in the middle. But that would seriously mess with a well-balanced layout, of course...

    BTW, Awesome build :thumb:

News update - I'll be phoning Marlin today to order the rest of the car, since MrsGoo gave me the thumbs up on doing so last night! YAY!:D

I wonder how long it'll take them to make it all - it took ages last time, due to their factory move...

Hopefully it won't take 'em too long if they've already moved - given how dead the car market seems to be atm I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't take 'em that long at all.

More good work (what we haven't already seen in this thread of course!). How long will it take to finish once the new bits from Marlin come? A couple of months or more like a matter of a few weeks (then the BIVA test) ?

Months - there's a lot of fettling to do to get the body to fit. So whilst it'll be on the road this year, it won't be any time soon.

    Nope. :(

Still waiting for the call from Marlin. I was hoping that I would have been able to have picked up the bits this weekend, but not heard anything from them.

I shall be ringing them on Tuesday.

Update: I've rung Marlin, and all the parts are ready (including the windscreen) - So I'm going to pick them up on the 26th.

I was going to get the windscreen from Marlin at the Stoneleigh Kit Car show, but they're not going now as they have a race event that weekend.

I have just noticed this thread, an ambitious project but so far so good. Good luck
