Good start so far, dvd drive looks cool and front panel is coming along nicely.
remember that the forums are like modding itself, be patient and crack on doing what you enjoy, comments or no. eventually someone will see what you are doing and throw some praise your way =o)

It's looking good. I envy you the access to the school shop, lots of cool space and tools it looks like.
I like your desk setup! Hex screws rock and you've used a good amount of them, as well as placing them nicely. Good work on that drive window... I'm gonna have to window a dvd or HD soon... well, someday!
Nice knife! They let you make that at school? I remember making a mini-club on the lathe in woodshop (back when I was 13) and having to sneak it, since it wasn't allowed.

Nice work, keep it up, and like someone above said, enjoy doing it!

Update 2/16/09 Laser cutting!!

Wow! its been too long....

I've been under pressure to finish the case by the time my final show comes, so there haven't been many updates, but I will try to take more pictures now that I have some time...

Got the parts back from laser cutting, and did some sleeving work. Also finished all 3 window panels (don't have pics of that yet)

Looks liek the lazer cutter did a good job. Nice sleeving on the USB ports, the red and black compliment each other perfectly.

I plan to keep the final design a secret, as I have changed it a lot from the original sketchup model, but pretty much all I have left to do is install the laser cut pieces, and get the powder coating done, so im nearing the end :-D

 

Powdercoat!!!

Alright, so you all will be really mad at me for not taking enough progress pics, but the case is finished. Just finished it now, so I don't have final pics, but I managed to get a pic of the powdercoated chassis:



that will have to suit you until my bro comes home with his nice camera to take epic pics of the finished case

Thanks. I'm glad I decided not to spray paint it. Powdercoating is really nice, much more durable, which is good since I plan to take it to college.

 

The powdercoat looks great, can't wait for more pictures, especially of your window panels.

Alright, well I got too giddy to wait for my bro, so here are some teaser shots of the finished case







Sorry for all the dust.....this case is mostly lexan and acrylic, so it attracts dust like a f$@#ing magnet it's also hard to photograph because it's so reflective. I think the final shots will be outside against a white backdrop, with proper lighting, and as little flash as possible.

 

This is coming along nicely. I too like the powder coating.
