Definitely the top one. It's got a lot more character, and as long as that top piece is reasonably thick, a lot more depth too.

or go for polished ally for the frame and plexi for the top depending on the style of your case :)

    Question:
You're using AutoCAD, is it easy to learn?
Or is there anything else to recommend?

AutoCAD is quite simple to learn for 2D stuff, the learning curve then get's a bit steeper for 3D. But it's worth the extra time of learning compared to say sketchup, as the difference in quality and power is huge.

I do all of my modelling in AutoCAD, usually using a few very basic commands, extrude, revolve, sweep and loft. Combine those four with union/subtract commands and allmost any shape is possible.

AutoCAD is also directly compatible with 3ds Max, meaning powerful rendering capabilities at the end. I really should learn to model directly in 3ds Max, I'm sure it's the best way really!

PTModder, how are you finding 2009? I couldn't get used to the ribbon style layout so had to switch back to classic view. Still not a patch on 2004 though, which had a great ballance between performance and power = no bloat. Pitty it doesn't work under vista/w7.
