Hello, I know you probably get so many of these questions that you've become sick of them. Still after looking through all the different PSU calculators I've had all sorts of results ranging from 300W to 1500W. The system I am looking to purchase includes: - Intel Q9550 - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R - 3x Hitachi Deskstar 320gb 7200rpm - 4gb PC2-8500 RAM - Any old DVD+/- RW optical drive - 2x Akasa 220mm fans - 2x GTX260 in SLI Bit-tech seems to praise the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 650W PSU a lot but I did'nt know that this would have enough power for my proposed system. Any proposals would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Ross
I'm assuming a video card is stuck in there somewhere too, but unless it's a huge electricity whore like the 4870 X2, you won't really need anything over 500-550W. The beQuiet that you mention would be an excellent choice (this isn't the only site around that's given it such high praise), and they do make a 550W version... - Diosjenin -
What a fool I am, forgetting the graphics cards. The computer will be mainly used for gaming therefore I am looking to ge 2 GTX260s in SLI. They are the primary reason I was worried if 650W would be enough. Sorry, I wrote the previous post in a bit of a rush. Thank you very much Ross
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 This corsair is what I would go with for your build. It isn't modular but with the MIR it has a very attractive price compared to the Be Quiet.
A 650W would do fine for a setup like that, although 750W would be more on the safe side if you wanted to add something like liquid cooling or a few more hard drives (or make an in-place upgrade to more powerful graphics cards) somewhere down the line. Also, it should be noted that the GA-EP45-UD3R is not a board that will work with SLI. For that matter, it's not a board that will work with Crossfire, either, seeing as it only has one PCI-E x16 slot... - Diosjenin -
be quiet! don't sell to the states though. For 650W - beq is what I'd recommend. For 850-900W the CoolerMaster UCP, Antec Signature or Seasonic M12-D. 750W, Corsair TX. If you want to wait 2 days - I'm testing 10-16 PSUs out here in Germany including: OCZ ModX 500W OCZ Fatal1ty 700W Seasonic M12-D 850W Corsair TX850W Corsair CX400W Enermax Rev 85+ 850W Enermax Liberty Eco 650W Tagan SuperRock 680W Akasa Freedompower 750W Sapphire 625W (Enermax Modu 82+ rebrand) be Q Dark PP 850W be Q Dark PP 1000W BFG MX 550W FSP Everest 1000W Should be, uh, a fun 2 days.
Eh, I had a beQuiet, but it didn't want to start my motherboard. I RMA'ed it, but the replacement didn't work either. Any other PSU powered it up first time, and I'm using a Corsair HX620w now, which is brilliant.
Thank you everyone for your replies. Well I doubt I will be making a purchase for at least a month yet so I will read through all Bindibadgi's reviews and then make my definite decision at the time. I will probably look at something that is 750W or higher. Thank you very much everyone. Ross
$90 FSP 450w booster. Powers 2x 200 series nVidia cards and doesn't tax your powersupply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104054&Tp
Thank you for the idea kassenz, but, I think that I will stick to a single PSU. Less wires to deal with etc. Thanks though Ross
Oh god no. Stay WELL CLEAR of things like this. Go with the Dark Power Pro 850W if you have a cool case (it runs hot, but it's bloody quiet), the Antec Sig we previously recommended, the Enermax Revolution if you can afford it, the Corsair TX750W isn't that bad but noisy at full load, and the Seasonic M12D is noisier and more expensive still so I wouldnt bother
