Re-effing-diculous, sir. It a little difficult to make text round, so I will give you a Square of Applause.

Only one small suggestion: Looking at the first pic, my eyes are drawn to the hard drive. What do you think about a blanking plate to fit in that space?

Other than that...wow. Just wow. Congrats oldnewby, this case is awesome.

...can someone hand me a towel?

Where does the motherboard go? ;)

This is actually the first time I've looked at this project log. Quite stunning.

Wow! Thanks a lot everyone, :):):)

@Fisher., Yes I was thinking a piece of mesh in there. :thumb:

Some of you were concerned that perhaps the cooling solution was insufficient so
I've posted some temp results here.
Cygnus X1 has been running for a few days now and no problems have been evident.
All the fans have had their speed reduced so it's very quiet, the slot loader works well
but you have to be ready to catch the disc when ejecting. :hehe:
I've posted links to screenshots of the temp tests for those that are interested but the
details are thus; at stock speed (2.4Ghz) at idle CPU is ~30C, Running several programs
including transcoding an AVI file, extracting a large RAR file, watching a video, downloading
a torrent, firefox with several tabs open etc, the temp was around 40C and motherboard
temp varied between 25C~30C. There was no combination of ordinary programs that could
take the CPU to 100%. Bumping up the CPU to 3Ghz gave an idle temp slightly higher at
~34C and running the same combination of programs resulted in ~45C. So it will be left at
3Ghz. I wanted to see the temps for the CPU at 100%, so two instances of Orthos were run
and the result here is ~55C for the CPU. So all those temps are fine for everyday running.
Ambient temp during all this was 26C.
I never actually run that many programs at once so everyday running should see a CPU
temp of around 34C at 25C ambient, and that's fine. I also don't play games so the GPU
temp at 52C odd is OK as well. ;)

Here's some pic's because, well, just because. :)

fine temps you've got yourself there sir :)

I've got to say that those pictures look amazing! Especially the last one, it looks like something out in the future. Very nice work, I can't wait to see how it will end up with wood on it..

And I defiantly agree with the others, this is mod of the year modding we see here!

Still blown away. bit-tech moderators... where do we vote for MOTM and MOTY ???

I remember watching this build near the beginning and somehow lost track of it. Just read through the whole thing now.

    Incredible!

This whole project is a paean to craftsmanship and I'm sure you're justifiably proud.

There is one detail that has always struck me as jarring however.
Throughout the entire chassis you use either buttonhead or countersunk allens...except for the rear panel exhaust fan, which for some reason has four crown nuts.
That break in consistency has always caught my eye- as do the thumbscrews for the PSU, although I can kind of see the reason for them- and strikes me as a bow to expedience.

    Just nitpicking, sorry.

    Thank you jegerjon. :)

    Thanks hilbert. :)

    Thanks brinkz0r. :thumb:

Glad you found it again, thanks. :)

    Thanks clocker. :)
Well, consistency? OK the fans at the front are mounted with the same hardware as the fan
at the back. These fans face the same direction. They are secured using dome (acorn) nuts
at the rear. Looking at the chassis from the front you can see the fans fitted with socket head
screws. Looking at the fans from the rear you can see them secured with dome nuts. That's
pretty consistent. The thumbscrews for the PSU were handy at the time, and because I knew
the back panel was going to be "lumpy" I left them there, and over time I've grown to like them. But in matters of taste (thumbscrews or other do the same job), all views are correct.

    Thank you nagy. :)

    Thanks DAVE. :)

The freight will be very expensive, this thing will weigh a ton. :hehe:

I recognize that. Aluminium isn't heavy, but a lot of it still is :hehe:
