I want to upgrade a laptop from core duo T2450 to a 64bit core 2 duo for CPU intensive programs Socket of laptop: Socket M Ram: 2 GB (have another spare 2GB ram lying around) Laptop: dv6426 OS: Vista home premium If you need anything else just type it =D
I think tech3312 was asking if the CPU could be upgraded.. You should probably call HP, I'm not too sure about laptop CPU upgrades.. AFAIK you can't remove most of them.
depends on socket types... Socket M's (normally yellow on interior CPU cage) are low end and most are non-64bit. I have a socket M T7200... I think the most you can upgrade to for a Socket M is a T7250 or something like that... If you can get a Socket P mobo/lappy instead, do that. No offense, as i own a socket M, but for 64bit, they blow. socket p (T9300 perferabably) kicks some serious butt... Ive got an XPS M1530 with a T9300 and it runs 64bit Vista HP SP1 with no probs... oh and calling HP to ask about swapping CPUs - dont bother wasting your time and breath. They will give you the biggest load of horse sh*t ever... trust me i know.
The best way to tell is to grab CPU-z, check your chipset under the mainboard tab, then hit ark.intel.com. Chances are, the T7800 is the highest you can go based on the fact that you have a Core Duo (yonah based) CPU now. This is assuming the BIOS supports it. But the CPU is 64 bit, so that's not a problem. I think there was an extreme edition (unlocked) processor that was compatable, but I don't see it listed on Intel's site. In my Dell e9400, I was able to upgrade from a Core Duo T2300 to a Core 2 Duo T7400 without a problem.
Yonah based? Its Merom dude... Socket M... Yonah is a different type... thats, what the extremes? He should be able to go to a T7800 with No Problem...
The DV 6426 seems to support only one CPU: If you could borrow a cpu of the same type you want to uppgrade to, you could try it out, but I doubt that the BIOS would support it. You could try to uppgrade BIOS, but don't hope for much. You should be caseful, though. The cooler isn't really designed for anything bigger than a T2450 In most laptops the CPU can be swapped. The exception is smaller laptops like some 12" that have the cpu soldered to the motherboard.
By the looks of it your laptop runs on the Napa platform, which should take a Merom (T7*00) as they were chipset and pin compatible. However it may not be supported by the BIOS. The latest BIOS is F.2D which doesn't mention anything about Core 2 Duo compatibility. Anyway, the highest Socket M Merom is the T7600 so just try it I guess.
Nope, Core Duo is Yonah, core 2 Duo is Merom. The northbridge is Calistoga, the southbridge is the ICH7-m. Listed on http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=22817 as a supported processor is the T2300. If you check the second line of the summary information, you will see that is says "Products formerly Yonah. If you go back to the Calistoga page, you will also see the T7400 and the summary lists it as Products Formerly Merom. There is lso a potental problem with the T7800. While it is listed as compatabile with the 945 chipset, I think it is a special case situation where the ODM maked the board specifically for the CPU. So the max safe CPU looks to be the T7600.
Sorry for the LONG absence been really busy with school and other stuff so for now the option looks good the video card i think i won't have any problems I'm only worry about the CPU... In addition can anyone find a cheap T7600 for me? because it looks like around $600 at stores (wonder why so expensive) and if anyone has a working T7600 in their own posession and still working I'll like to buy it form them you think there going to be any cooling problem? because the core duo is only 31 watt while the core 2 duo is around 34 watt... my laptop get's warn but it could be the dust accumulating it... and i'll upgrade my HD to 5400 to 7200 RPm 320Gb
I have a t7200 in my laptop right now, so no go there... go on newegg. I know they have a T7250 for around $200... and clean your heatsink and get the dust out...
Ya i got several things to do if i get the CPU one is clean the goddamn dust my fan runs louder because of it, I have to replace the CPU thermal paste maybe going with Artic silver 5... and Prob reflash the BIOS if it doesn't recognize it
I wish the fan in my laptop were easier to remove to keep it clean. Being that it is a 17 inch unit, its innards are more spread out and themal management is not quite so bad.
Ya so i'm planning to get the Harrdrive first 7200 RPM 320Gb good upgrade from 5400 120GB then CPU chip and Artic silver 5 for heat conductivity so Cpu can get just a little bit cooler since it's from 31 watt heat with core duo to 34 watt core 2 duo (every bit counts)
