@ the noise of the 4890... People complained about the heat of the 4870. Now the complain about the noise of the 4890?

Noise and heat I'm afraid - the whole card gets toasty, from the PCB to the heatsink. And that's despite the fan blowing hard to get that heat away.

If the two cards were identically priced and identically fast, I'd go with the GTX 275 - it's just easier to live with, though still isn't exactly quiet. As it is, the GTX 275 is also generally a touch faster than the HD 4890.

    Nice!!

For $150 saving the 4890s are the one to buy.

At the end of the day, in my opinion it comes down to price - both have plus and cons, but the office agrees the 275s with 185 drivers afford the best potential.

You've got 30W more heat to deal with from the 4890 and it has an extra heatpipe inside to cope. It's notably louder especially if you overclock it, but not "OMG IM GOING TO EXPLODE" loud. Under idle it should be quieter than the 4870 though because they've improved the leakage loss so it's ~20W (?) lower too.

You don't happen to know anything about if the waterblocks that was released for the 4870 will fit the 4890? :)

And btw. Which do you think will come out best? A single GTX 295 versus two 4890s? I can imagine that the 4890s would perform better, but I'm not quite shure since I won't be able to compare both cards to eachother. :D

Two 4890s will be better. I dont know about waterblocks though.

Do you think the noise-level alone is enough reason to return my two 4890s?

I don't know, but I can barely handle my laptop, and if there aren't any waterblocks available in the next few weeks I may as well return them because Im not a huge fan of loud graphic cards. :(

I don't want to draw any wast conclusions, but is it possible to return GPU's just because of their noise level? :p

@ The waterblock question... You could try looking closely to photos of both cards, and see if there is anything in the way of the waterlock on the 4890. And you could also ask on some waterblock manufacturer's support forum.

Couldn't a HD4870 Waterblock "fit" for the HD4890, I mean they do use pretty much the same PCB.

New waterblocks for the HD 4890 out now. =)

It's available for order in EK's web shop. =)

Btw. do anyone know if I will be able to run 3-way crossfire HD 4890's on my DFI LP UT T3Eh8? Can I combine two HD 4890s and a 4870 X2 in CrossFire? The HD 4870 X2 is acctually cheaper than the HD 4890 in Norway now. A webshop called Komplett.no sold them for 50 % off the regular price some days ago :D

If only that'd happen in America.

And I think the HD4890 would just clock down to HD4870 speeds.
