there's a article in the hardware section you might want to look at.. I'm liking the 4890 reviews and it's $230 on newegg (with rebate).. looks like it oc's well also (least in the firing squad review- those guys over there are hardcore gamers, it was started by thresh.. who was a quake 2 god when fatal1ty was still suckling on his moms)

I'd say 4850 as you're not an extreme gamer. That could save you a few tenners.

And as you're getting WC, get one with a stock cooler (should be cheap as nobody wants a 4850 with a stock cooler).

just when your spending 150+ new on something.. might as well get the best deal for your money.. worth spending a little more imo

the 4850 is alright.. my friend has that card- he's not happy with it.. wishes he had got the 4870

I have a 4850 and while it does run really well. Its going to be old really soon. I think the 4870 is a better bet to last a bit longer.

Or blow the budget just a teeny bit more and get a 4890? That will last you longer and overclock better..

    GTS 250, yes weird choice.

But most places now sell it under the HD4850 or similar in price, and the GTS 250(9800GTX+ in a mask) beats the HD4850 most of the time.

Personally I regret not getting a 9800GTX+(it was only $5 more), but it's a great card fr sub $150.

For $175, you could grab a GTX 260 or a HD4870 quite easily now.

    +1 for the 4870.

$50 premium for the 4890 for a minimal performance gain isn't quite worth it IMO.

2 4830's Cheesecake... several reviews show it busting up the 4870 and gtx 260 all day, and giving the 4870x2 a run for it's money.

Nah, go for GDDR5 memory (quad speeds! Just IMAGINE!) over GDDR3.
Which means at least a 4850.

No votes for the ancient GTS 250?

And for some reason I'd favor the GTX 260 only because it's less hot and hungry.

one, 4850 is gddr3 as well...two, look at reviews...two of these smoke a 4870 for about the same price, gddr3 or gddr5 who cares. he's not asking about best ram on a video card for the price, he is asking best video card for the price.
