A little something to cheer up HTR.

My portable headphone amp has arrived. It's a Decware ZenHead kit.

I can't wait to get this baby put together... I hope to make my own carbon case for it this week.

I would so make something like that if my soldering skills weren't so crap lol, I need to get a better soldering iron.

 

I built stuff like that back in my college degree program except we only had vacuum tubes(valves). Made the stuff a bit bigger.

The the Caveat:
Bloody Decware forgot to pack 3x10k resistors!
Ahhh, but as chance has it I have a collection of resistors.
However chance is a real son-of-a-gun - my 10k drawer is empty.
Message sent to Decware requesting expedited replacements - but I'll just take a trip to the hobby shop tomorrow.

Progress is awesome.
Caveat is just a minor niggle. I half expected you to take some carbon dust and break out a multimeter to make your own resistors

 

Nice soldering skills. I can't wait for your review lol.

 

it's not that hard with a kit

 

We never mind or censor people suggesting somewhere else - but it was written as a blatant "go here to receive love and join our community and win prizes" which we simply remove. We have to maintain a zero tolerance to spam and blatant pimping, regardless of who posts it Im afraid.

If it's that important to let people know another community, there's nothing wrong with putting a "Watercooling specialists: http:///" in a signature.

 

Bad Langer, where is the IC socket you should have used to solder to the PCB rather than direct contact of hot solder to the poor little IC, i hope at least you used a small heatsink to protect it, like a small clip or something.

 

You even lined up the colors on the resistors. OCD confirmed! Welcome to the club, brother.

 

what? you don't line up the resistors cheaps? hell, i would have done all the resistors before even putting any other component in, esp. the ic's

@Bindibadgi - Sincere apologies Bindi, I didn't realize it when I posted. Sorry.

@Burnout21 - I didn't have any sockets that size on hand and I'm an eager beaver. Hoever I licked my finger and used it as a heatsink actually, but I was really quick and I used a digital temp controlled soldering station. Thanks for watching my back though man... and welcome to RRR .

@Cheapskate - Mad OCD my friend - a place for everything and everything -parallel, color coded, arragned by size and date of purchase- in its place . hahaha

@tominated - Normally I'd do the resistors first. Since I had to solder the opamps I figured I do the 'hardest' part last... If I had of heard any crinkling noises (bye bye opamp) I didn't want to have to waste my time any more than necessary.
