    Hi

So, is it a good idea to use sleeping mats as sound silencing material in your case? because the sound silencing kits available costs about 4 times as much as a sleeping mat, but is the sleeping mat any good at silencing noise from the computer? :eyebrow:

    anyone tried it? :D

    Regards
    Rasmus

They insulate heat, but that shouldn't be a problem, if you've got enough airflow.

Other then that, sure it'll work just fine.

In my experience even the silencing kits do very little so a sleeping mat can't be much worse. The problem is that to get a decent amount of silencing you need to cover all the holes, but then your PC would overheat massively!

And once you stick those mat things on the casing it's a nightmare to get off.

depends on what kind of noise you want to remove. Foam in general will only reduce some of the high-pitch noise. The noise from vibration/resonance in the case will still be there. To get rid of that you need something heavy, like asphalt. Proper silencing kits consists of two-layer mats. they have sticky asphalt with foam on top.

But as EnglishLion says, it doesn't do very much in real life.

But the idea is to stop the case panels vibrating by changing resonant frequencies so weight and good adhesion are the important factors.

Sleep mat = Rubbish. You're far better looking at quieter fans.

Surround your case with bricks. :D.

You could always try to make your panels and your case heavier, just curious though, what are you trying to silence?

Check out any store that sells car accessories. Many shops will have noise reduction kits for cars. They may be a tad bit cheaper. Note that in the car industry they have the asphalt and foam separated because they are rarely needed in the same place. You many need to buy two types of mats and glue them on top of each other. Remember that the asphalt mat go closest to the metal. And don't get the foam stuff with aluminum foil on top. It won't work as well.

metal sheets and lots of double sided tape could also work. The point is to add weight to the side panels.
