HI guys I bought this new WD Green 1TB 32mb. I made 2 partitions. One for OS & Games & Programs ( 100GB ) Second For Storage ( Data ) I notice When I used the Data partition, I get Slow Transfer Speeds, So i went CP to see HD Idle Activity and i saw this : So What do you think ? I have Another 2 X 500 GB For DATA only. Should I install windows on one of them ? or what I can do ? Thanks
I can only assume it's indexing. It should settle if left overnight. You could try switching indexing off to confirm it is that which is thrashing your disk. No? Ok then.
Because I can't get The F1, Not Available . This WD is not Slow, But what makes it slow that some thing use it all the time. I can hear it's noise all the time The point we have Limited Market here buddy
If I remember rightly, there's no fixed spindle speed, as they're tuned for best efficiency. I'd warrant that you could fudge that up by messing around with the WD Drive tools.
It's a WD Green, and a mid-range/size one, so probably around 6000rpm. The smaller ones run faster (because the platters are less dense) and the larger ones (e.g., 2TB) run closer to 5400rpm. They don't run at the full 7200rpm, and unfortunately I'm fairly sure their speeds are fixed in the firmware (though whatever the WD Tools are, they may be able to change that). Also, it's odd that Windows has decided to index a non-OS partition, so it may not be indexing. Unless you're transferring from one partition to another? I thought Windows would only (unasked) index it's own partition.
I'm using the SAME hardisk for OS and DATA ( 2 Partitions ) But They say it's 7200rpm I never knew that it was slower.... I paid more for WD because I trust them. The maxtor and Seagate was cheaper But I didn't go for them. So now what is wrong with my drive ? I bought a crap Model ? EDIT : oh u guys thought i have 2TB WD green ( because my sig ) no that is the total I have ( 1TB WD Green 32mb + 0.5TB WD Green 16mb + 0.5TB WD 8mb ) All Sata and Run at 30C ( 28 - 30 max ) ( C : OS / F: DATA + E : DATA + D : DATA )
Hmmm... Maybe it's not WD's tool that lets you play with spindle speeds... IBM/HGST's tools used to. That was fun.
make sure it's not an app causing the problem.. vista is actually very well behaved.. all this stuff with the indexing, search, restore and such isn't causing that issue.. check the task manager and look for apps using up resources- I'm willing to bet it's something installed you can do these manual tweaks here also.. http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=515947&mpage=1&key=& use vista manager to handle the rest I really recommend this program.. let's you compact your registry along with the basic sweeping/tweaks.. get that bad app out first
After using CCleaner + Spy Bot + ESET Smart + Disk Defrag + Disk Clean + Million restart It's not busy now It's working with like ~ 200 KB/s or so ... I think that is good, Right ?
