    Cool idea. :D

It should work just fine. I have a remote controlled fan in my living room, so I don't see why you couldn't build a controller for PC fans. If you have a learning, multi-device remote then you can program it to control them so you don't have to have extra remotes laying around.

I say try it and let us know how it goes.

I was just thinking of something along these same lines. I was going to try to adapt the mod in the article ZW just mentioned... But of course I have to wait until I have time to finish the rest of my case :p

    bah on college.

Saw something just like that... The only problem is that it only has 4 relays and costs too much (in relation to the performance). The relay card + infrared reciever would only cost around €33 and could control 8 devices (however only with the software :sigh: )

ya I was just thinking too...the one I have wouldnt work for a power button in the PC, because the power supply would have to be on first in order to mke the relay work  oh well....

If the kit will run from 5V, you can use the wake-on-LAN connector to draw current from the +5VSB rail.

    Here you go:

    goto: www.conrad.de

    Codes:

    192252 - 62 (actual reciever)
174025 - 62 (infrared amplifier... something like that anyway...)

You need both products to construct a functional reciever. The shop is German, however I think that they ship worldwide (not 100% sure. :sigh: )
