i changed my thermal compound to some new **** now my cpu is reading 46 degrees C / 116 degrees F. is that good i was getting lower but that wont fry my proccessor will it
Err.. what CPU? You should start worrying if it gets to around 60. Atm, you're fine. Isn't there a Hardware forum round here somewhere?
its, i have a Amd Athlon Xp 1800+ I was getting around 35 Degrees C / 109 Degress F before that was with some generic radioshack heat sink compound - im using coolermaster thermal compound now. and getting around 48 degrees C / 118 degress F
Either the reading with the radio shack stuff was wrong or you have applied too much/little of the coolermaster stuff.
not sure i did apply a pretty good amount not like half the bottle but enough its makes a Square 1inch by 1inch
There's a couple of tricks with applying thermal compund. Firstly, you need to remove the old compund from the CPU and the heatsink. I use acetone free nail varnish remover and cotton buds to do this. Then you want to spread a very thin layer of your new thermal compound across the top of the CPU core. It only wants to be about as thick as a sheet of paper. Using too much will actually increase your temperatures. Then fit your heatsink. Then remove your heatsink and check that there is a nice square imprint of thermal compound on it from the CPU. If so, reapply the compound and fit the heatsink. Job done. If you didn't get a nice imprint on the bottom of the heatsink, then either the compound wasn't applied evenly to the CPU, or your heatsink has a curved base. If the heatsink isn't flat, you'll need to lap it (plenty of guides on doing this exist on the net). You can then follow the steps again, and eventually you'll get a nice fitting heatsink that gives you reasonable temps.
That really is the key right there! Just a paper thin layer and only on the Core. Should see you sorted with that!
yeah thx i got it as thin as possible and stuck at one temp now. thx still running a bit sluggish but maybe in a few days of hard pushing it will start to wear itself in and go back to normal speed
43 degress C / 109 degrees f wich is normal opc has been running for a couple of days now its actuall running normal now. i did have to much on it took more off and now its doing great
