Hi everyone I have a GA-EP31-DS3L, a Q6600 SLACR and 2x2GB of OCZ DDR2-1066 5-5-5-18 RAM. At the moment it's running absolutely fine, 4 hours (I got bored of waiting) prime stable at: 333MHz FSB, 9x multiplier 333x9=3GHz 1.45V Vcore in BIOS, actually 1.4V after Vdroop RAM at 999MHz 5-5-5-18 2.1V (so within spec, it should go up to 533MHz no problem) EIST and C1E enabled about 35*C idle and 59/60*C after being at full load for 45mins. PCIe clock at 100MHz Now, what I'd like to do is run it at 354MHz FSB, giving 1064MHz RAM (as close to 1066MHz as possible). However, the system refuses to go above 333MHz. I've tried: Disabling EIST and C1E Decreasing multiplier to 6x Increasing CPU voltage to 1.5V Increasing NB voltage by +0.1V Increasing FSB voltage by +0.1V Reducing memory mulitplier so that it runs at ~800MHz However, the system refuses to POST. The Gigabyte website claims the board will do 400MHz FSB with overclocking, and the reviews I've seen managed to reach 420MHz, so I don't know why I can't reach anywhere near that. It won't even do 340MHz. Any ideas? Thanks for any help ch424
Well, I'm not sure what changed, but I now have it running at 400x8=3.2GHz FSBRAM=1:1 RAM 800MHz @ 4-4-4-18 RAM=2.1V MCH=+0.1V FSB=+0.1V Vcore=1.5V (1.41V after vdroop) Temps are hitting 60C for the cores and 50C for NB, but don't seem to go any higher. This is good, right? thanks ch424
Your sig shows Intel Q6600 @ 3GHz | Asus P5QL-E Did you ditch the Gigabyte and why cos it looks like it clocked better than the Asus????
I replaced the gigabyte because of lots of things - it only supported 4GB of RAM, and didn't have firewire. There were other issues too... I assumed the ASUS would give me better clocks and less Vdroop, but it gave me identical clocks for some reason. Maybe the RAM or my PSU are holding me back.
those are good temps on that quad.. nothing to be worried about- the vdroop can be taken care of with a pencil mod or bios usually.. but you don't need it unless your really going buck nuts- and there's an old debate about why there is droop in the first place and why not to disable it (it basically sets a spike limit so you don't suffer electromigration from overvoltage) pretty interesting stuff, course if your out to set records you don't care about longevity =]
