That looks so damn good with the clear coat on. Either my morning coffee hasn't kicked in or my eyes are just not working, but I am seeing nothing but fantastic craftsmanship....but that may be because I want to see the end result about as much as I would like to spend a weekend with Megan Fox, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel......

    Yay! Update!
Man, that wood looks fantastic after the first 4 coats (esp the one on the right!). I see no irregularities or problems with that at all. Personally, I think you could mount the side panel on the wall and people would love it!
    Sexy curves!

So am I to believe that you are mounting hinges and panel soon?

Bring back memories of the woodwork classes in school, of course we threw pieces of wood at each other instead of making nice things like you are doing.....

Looks great! I like using a sanding sealer to highlight "issues" before moving on to final finishes.

Personally, I like knots and "blemishes" in a wood. It adds character and proves it's not fake. :thumb:

The clear really brought the contrast out. I would be tempted to add extra clear to the knots and fill them completely in. The only knot that bothered me was the one on the corner, but the rounding fixed it.:thumb: It's placement and size made it look more like an scar from dropping.
There's a face and top panel that need to be made now, right?:D

    :) Thanks a lot everyone!

Only one coat so far MM, and yep the hinges are next.

Indeed. Some people consider these features unfortunate but like you, I like em.

Yes the reason for so many coats of clear is to fill in the grain, so the feature on the top front
should be mostly filled when all the painting is done.
Yes there will be a multi-segment panel across the top and front that will be hinged in three
    places.

Here are some pics to show how the side panels look with the chassis.
Just a few points with these pics: You will see many runs and blobs of clear, this is OK, it's
just the first coat and I slop it on heavy.
The panels are sitting on the same surface as the chassis but they will be raised about 4mm
    when mounted.
You wont actually see the contrast between the side panels and chassis when complete, except at the back.
The shape will change as I need to cut away some material at the top rear on both sides so
the panels can open without fouling the top.
The strong grain on the right side makes the bulge at the front look really weird. :worried:

I've decided to leave these at one coat until after they are mounted and all the other
stuff is made. I just know I'm going to slip with a driver or drop something on them, so
better to leave the finishing till last.
    Back soon with hinges.

The rich dark colour of the wood goes perfectly with the powdercoated chassis, you certainly did your research my friend, and it paid off ;). Simply stunning :D.

I don't wanna compete with you either.

    You completely blow me away.

It was hard enough to compete with you for MOTM, when nobody's finished.

Simply freaking amazing... Like the The boy 4rm oz said, the contrast between the powdercoated aluminum and wood is stunning. Two materials so opposite, look so perfect together.
