I have a Antec 300 Case with stock fans.

and they are bloody loud! even on the lowest setting, I can hear them on the other side of the house (ok, if I listen carefully).

So, who knows any good, quite fans. Ideally, I want them to be cheap-ish and able to shift a large volume of air (important, as I am about to upgrade my system with a pair of overclocked 4770's :naughty: )

    so, any ideas?

Cheap-ish or cheap? Because my recommendation is Scythe's S-Flex SFF12G. The lowest price you'll probably be able to find them is $13 (US). It's better than your average Noctua, but they're not cheap...

classic problem mate... wanting a quiet fan with high volume displacement. For the most part its a matter of what kind of bearing is used/ build quality. Along with asking people here for advice I would also recommend reading reviews on sites like newegg. I'm still on the search for the perfect fan, so don't feel alone :hehe:

you could always use silencers and rubber screws to help reduce vibes/noise. like these.

but specifically for a good cfm pushing fans that are quiet...
it all depends on your definition of silent.
one's 'quiet' fan might bring hell to your ears..

maybe perhaps put silencing material within your case to hinder noise from leaking out?

Yate Loons are by general consensus the best "cheap" fans AFAIK.

I've got 3 yate Loons in my PC, damn good fans, plenty of suction on them through my front grills, and at 12V there not really that loud, very pleased with mine.

I'd get a higher RPM Scythe S-flex (amazing) or a Yate Loon (affordable).

I was thinking of buying an Antec 1200, does anyone know if they have noisy fans as well?

not a clue. But I would guess that they would use the same type of fans in the 1200 as in the 300

    OK, I'll have a look at Scythe's S-Flex SFF12G and some Loons

And I'll defininatly have a look at using anti vib mountings as well.

As usual, thanks for a quick and very helpful hints and tips.

i have the antec 1200 and it is loudish. it has 5x120mm and 1x200mm.

on low speed fans its quietish but noticable though cause theres 6 fans all spinning.

on medium i woundt suggest having it for a HTPC

on high its like a wind tunnel i kid you not

Get the fans recommended here. Scythe S-Flex, Yate Loon, Noctua fans are all great due to their sleeve bearings and fan designs. Use onboard or hardware fan controllers and undervolt to ~7V. Silicon sleeves may or may not make a great difference at 7V, though.

By doing this you will only eliminate case fans as the main culprit in noise. If you want silence you will have to think about CPU HSF, chipset fans, graphics card fans, and hard disk noise.

Welcome to the world of silent computing.

Ill suggest Scythe 800-series fans. I have them at my Antec P180 and they are damm good fans. They are about 10db
