What's the altitude there? We get them a lot in Colorado. They say it's because of our altitude and the thinness of our air. I'm at almost 5600 feet at home and my office is almost 6K feet. john /edit Nice picture by the way!
The reason I asked was I've never seen them in Iowa where I'm originally from and it's 1100 feet. Never seen any at sea level either. Doubles are cool. Like lenticular clouds we get in the cold time - look like flying saucers. john
I live practically at sea level and I've actually seen a few doubles around here. I took some pictures of one last year in the summer at an open air concert. It was beautiful. There was a short downpour and then it cleared up and while the music was playing the double rainbow formed so it almost looked like it started behind the stage and reached out over the audience. OT: I love the composition in that shot. The simplicity is really smooth. Cool!
