Considering that the power switch in your system basically just need anything to bridge the 2 pins like 2 wires or a screw-driver, im pretty sure it would be quite possible as water does indeed conduct electricity. Although im sure it would be cool the first few times, in the long run it would probably be the most iritating and time consuming way of turning the system on depending on how its done ofcourse.
Yes it is... its actually a mercury switch... mercury in a tube that when at the right angle makes contact with 2 pieces of metal attached to fx. mobo header by a wire... Edit: If you need one theyre actually used in Bike and car alarms... it acts as a sensor to trip off the alarm when tilted in from its original position
Pure water is not conductive; tap water is conductive because it has minerals and other ions floating around.
As has been said its do-able, but i think the question the others missed has to be.. why would you want to?
I assume the maple syrup power switch is all part of his master plan to make a Canadian-themed PC mod. Umm...good luck with that.
Maple syrup would be kind of sticky as a switch... may not be very effective. Perhaps as a coolant in the water cooling system? Just kidding, that would be very bad for the parts. You could, however, make the water cooling fluid brown with some coloring, and make the resivoir out of a glass maple syrup bottle. Then just tell people its got "Maple Syrup cooling" and nobody edjucated in the field of watercooling will be the wiser.
I'm not entirely sure lol. (ah crap, I've ressurected it again!) I suppose its the assument factor of what crazy ideas I had only a few years ago...
This is good idea eh? There best be some Canadian bacon and possibly French Toast involved here. (Pancakes or Waffles are also an acceptable alternative.) On to the serious part. I'm not quite sure exactly how you'd want to use the maple syrup to turn the PC on.. but you could fake it if you couldn't find a way.. make it so your turning some tube of maple syrup and the syrup inside moves and all.. but it's just a fancied up mechanism to hit a power switch.. then maybe turn it the other way for a reset. ?? sorry i'm not much help here. But it sounds interesting. I'll be keeping my eyes out for a Maple Syrup PC in the project logs.
