next month im looking to build a new 700 quid system the current specs are as follows cpu - e8500, looking to push this close to 4ghz with the titan fenrir cooling it ram - 4gb corsair pc-8500 gpu - asus gtx260 ( something like 650 / 2100 / 1440 - dont quote these ) case - antec twelve hundred the cpu cooler will be upgraded to a titan fenrir basically im looking for advice on a psu and mobo, was initially looking at the biostar i45, but im having second thoughts after some reviews ive read cheer for any help
I would suggest the Biostar TPower I45 and the Be Quiet! Dark Pro 650w should get you all sorted. Both items come highly recommended by custompc
I also agree with the above choice, but I will say if you haven't already bought the E8500, the E8400 is a better choice as it is £20 cheaper and also overclocks above 4Ghz.
hey, cheers for the help, ill stick with the i45 board, and ill go with the 8400 also ive changed the gpu that im gonna go for though, came into a bit of extra cash, so im gonna buy an evga 2gb gtx 285 im just wondering will 650w be enough to power everything ?
why get a dual core intel when you can get a nice quad core AMD BE for 5 pounds more? http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-...ion-Sok-AM3-32GHz-8MB-Total-Cache-125W-Retail 145.92 not to mention you can get a high end AMD motherboard with more features for the price of the budget p45 board
ive generally never been an amd fan, but this looks like a better choice, any chance of linking me to a high end amd board ? thanks mate
well I am in the US so the uk prices are a bit off of US trends- but this board is a great one at scan for a good price: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus...16)-DDR3-1333-1600OC-SATA-3Gb-s-SATA-RAID-ATX I also recommend the MSI gd70 as it is the board I use and has 4 pci-e x16 slots, but they seem to have it on pre-order/not in stock mind you, you will be going ddr3, but ddr3 is cheap nowadays and you are more future proof with it. With an intel 775 platform you are end of the road and will need to buy all new parts when you want to upgrade - with the AMD system incremental upgrades are possible for a very long time because socket AM3 will be used for years.
decided to take your advice, in truth its actually worked out cheaper, although i generally suspect that from an amd/ati system so heres what im looking at now case - antec tweleve hundred - 136.85 psu - be quiet dark power pro 650w - 101.00 motherboard - msi-gd70 - 129.95 cpu - amd phenom 2 x4 955 black edition 3.2ghz - 145.92 ram - corsair dominator 4gb 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 - 61.09 gpu - his hd 4890 4000/ 850 / 850 - 217.35 what you make of that, probably still change up the stock cooling on the cpu, any opinions on what sort of overclock i could get on the cpu ?
with a good cooler, 3.6-3.8 ghz is easy easy, 4 is definitely possible as long as you tweak it right gaming this rig will be much faster than the one you were originally going with though - even at stock
and its cheaper, bizarre really hopefully be able to push this to 4 then, just need a good patient day im gonna have a look into a cooler just now, pretty sure the titan fenrir was only for 775 sockets, which is unfortunate, that was about the only part i was settled on to begin with
+1 and if you need/want to save a little dough, the 720 be or 550 be are good options with the possibility of unlocking some cores...if you are primarily into gaming, the 550 would do just fine.
