Hi, I started this project a long time ago, a year or something. It's almost finished, dvd-writer's front cover still needs to be painted. Hope you like it. Used my old hardware: XP2000+ 768Mb PC2700 R9600 320Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Corsair VX450 Made a quick sketch: Here you can see what the case originally looked like (started smoothing it, but it looked a bit dull so I dumped that idea): Had some blue acrylic lying around, used it to build up the air intake and cover the 3,25" bay. The white gooey stuff is a two part epoxy based glue, you can also see the white 1" PVC pipe that I cut in half to make the inside of the duct: Then I raised the sides of the 5,25" bay so that the optical drive would stick out: Then I used some body filler and sanded it down to make it some nice curves : Started on the side window: And again some filler: Then I cut a hole to the other side to show the green PCB : Some more bondo and sanding pads: And then I sent it off to a paint shop (it's great when someone in the family makes a living painting cars ): I like this shot a lot : On/off button and hdd-led: Quite happy with the results . It isn't perfect but it gave me a load of new ideas. For my next project I'll do a scratch build that would become my new main computer for CAD and rendering. I think there's a sketch somewhere in my notebooks, only need to find it and take a picture of it. Although first I have to work on my glassfiber skills that are non-exsistent at the moment . Is someone familiar with that and could give me some tips? What's a good material to start building the positive? (if I used some odd expressions or grammar, then be free to comment them, I'd really appreciate it ,haven't had any english practise for a few years)
Little bit of searching and I managed to find a rough sketch : But that's not going to happen in the near future, I might make the outer shell this year, but not more. More important things first, like my studies and close ones, who really matter.
It says Fuji... under the sloppy bondowork on the first picture. Can't remember if it was Fujitsu-Siemens or just Fujitsu. Was browsing through a local hardware forum's used hardware section and stumbled on it. All the sides were plastic, motherboard was upside down and it was a old which meant it's built like a tank.
One coat. First it was painted with a dark gray color with a small flake in it, but it didn't turn out good - too thick and some cracks came up on the left panel. Different materials (acrylic, filler, plastic and metal) didn't expand the same in the oven. So I sanded it down, sprayed on a heavy coat of primer, had it painted again and dried without baking. Few pics of the original color (didn't adjust the lightning so it has a gold hue to it): And in the last picture you can see a slot between the front and side panel, that's a smartcard reader:
