Hi Guys, Is the RTM of Windows 7 doing the rounds on filesharing sites / MSDN now the actual RTM? I.e. is it final/stable enough to test on my HTPC and main rig. Just want to test drive it before I buy as looks quite nice on reviews etc NB Not looking for download links/advice so please dont post any illegalities here! Just want to check versions etc Thanks, Dean.
MSDN version is the RTM (I love being a subscriber ). Haven't looked at less legit sources. But as DragunovHUN said, RC1 is pretty stable.
They haven't yet given it to MSDNAA (MSDN for students basically, but with less stuff) I have heard web mutterings about Monday 10th though, so I am hoping!! The RTM won't expire will it, its the full version? edit: slight error on my part - I hadn't noticed that Monday 10th was last Monday! I wonder what is going on...
RTM is the same version thats hitting the shops in October, so no expiry I've found Win7 plenty stable since beta and have been using on my main system since the beginning of the year and my HTPC for a couple months without any issues. Upgrading from RC to final, while not supported, is easily doable (and uneventful) by simply editing a text file. If you don't want a "questionable" RTM from filesharing etc and don't have access to MSDN/TechNet then you could always run with the RC until the final release.
Just downloading windows 7 from MSDN only able to get the RC not the RTM version but I dont think there will be any differences between the 2. I had a look on the file sharing sites but didnt trust any of the copies of windows 7 RTM i saw there so thought I will grab it and as Tad said just edit the text file quick question Tad which text file do I edit and how?
does MSDNAA differ between universities? i've been checking the MSDNAA e-academy download site provided by Southampton Uni almost every day, it's still RC. i want my Pro RTM
I do believe your "site administrator" of the program has to check a box for it to appear on your particular schools site.
We didn't even get the RC on ours, useless people! If its not there when I check later I may be forced to email... edit: no, its not there. I shall have to stop being lazy.
I think it is the Durham people being useless... I have emailed the person that is supposedly in charge!
Should be the full on RTM on MSDN since 06/08? To upgrade from Beta to RC to RTM, extract the ISO and edit "MinClient" in \sources\cpversion.ini to say 7000.0 Then you're good to go
MSDN AA is different from regular MSDN. (MSDN Academic Alliance) imo it SHOULD have been, but it wasn't.
still finishing installing all the regular programs. i found MSDNAA version to be different from the internet RTM release in the sense it didn't ask which edition to install, goes straight to installing Pro version. do they still do the "choose your browser" thing? mine came with IE8 and no fuss.
The browser selection will only be available on the retail versions I believe as it is expected OEM's will put on whatever browser they want.
anyone know where is the executable for XP mode? i installed visual PC and XP mode, restarted. but can't find the shortcut in start menu
I got an installation key for Win7 a few months ago but never got round to installing it. Now I can't find the installation files but I still have the key. Last few days I have been trying to download the RC from Microsoft but no luck - I can't get to the download screen. Is the latest RC available for download elsewhere?
