Hey guys I have a Q6600 at 3.4 and some kickass ram but my 8800GT is getting rather old. I game at 1920x1200 and love AA and AF 4X/16X any recommendations my budget is $200ish

I'd love to go AMD and I'd like a black PCB but neither is a requirement ;)

Wait for the new ATI cards to drop any day now (end of this week or next week likely)
Check the thread on the 5870.. the cards look amazing.
    Not at $200 though :(
But perhaps the new launch will push prices down on the cards you see right now.

you have a crossfire or sli board? or neither? man, $200 is tough, but i would say 4890 for that price. or get on craigs list and grab another 8800 gt for $70-80 if your board supports sli.
or wait until ati's 5 series drops in a week or two and see what the prices are and if it drops the 4890.

4870/4890 if you can find a 4890 for 200 including tax. Unless you want to wait till October, thats when the HD5770 releases and its under $200.

If it was me, I would seriously wait until the new ATI cards come out, and then buy a GTX2xx series.

I recently upgraded from an old 8800GTX to a 275GTX and was very happy with the result. I would say that the 260/275 are in the price/performance 'sweetspot' now. I bet the new DX11 cards coming out are going to be mucho £££ and poor value, so I wouldn't get one of them. Most games now aren't making full use of DX10, so I don't forsee the need for a DX11 card for ages yet.

Is it even possible for the HD4870 to fall any further price wise? Normally you'd assume the HD5870 would knock it on the head but at £100/$150 then I can't see it getting any cheaper at all

Its been awhile now for me and a AMD card what type of video enhancements do they have? I am a HUGE fan of Nvidias full range contrast enhancements.

I'll probably go with what ever card plays back my vids the nicest ;)

And thanks for all your help guys!

    $70 and it's still reasonable.

Sell it for $70 and then perhaps grab a GTX275?

Hey what do you guys make of this?

I ran the Resident Evil 5 benchmark and I got 38.7 average at 1920x1200 with max settings and 4AA running:
    Q6600 3.4GHz 8x 425multi and some seriously rare ram at 5-4-4-12 PL6 1066

I then set everything to STOCK and I get again exactly 38.7fps average :eyebrow:

You would think all that extra power would have had some kind of effect!

Your graphics card must be the bottleneck so whether your CPU is overclocked wouldn't make any difference.
