    Hi all

Just to reinforce the, "get a good PSU", school of thought this little tale might help....

Bought a top end PC from PC Specialist!

DAY 1, all fans & lights on - no post. Phoned, went through the DIY over the phone, sent it back.

Got it back, after they cx'd the GTX 275. Same problem - sent it back to them.

They cx'd the PSU saying it was blowing the mobo. It was a 750 FSP model and they relaced it with a blue cased Epilson, still an FSP?

Now, they have it back again as the system started to switch itself back on after shutdown!

This has happened to me before,on my old PII 400 system. It was the PSU causing the problem as it started to fail eventually blowing the mobo, CPU and GFX card as it finally blew itself up.

I have explained this to PCS and asked if they could replace it with a PSU rcommended by ASUS for the P6T Del V2 mobo, "if", it is the PSU causing the problem. I think they only use FSP, so, it will be interesting to see what returns.

SO... if you are buying comps to build a new system, see if the mobo manufacturer lists approved PSU's and bite the bullet and get one, dont be tempted into saving cash by thinking volts are volts, you will regret it.

Just a thought but, big power wont make your system any faster, and an 1100 watt PSU is the same as burning 11 100watt bulbs, and the old electricity dial will spin your cash away like crazy. get just a bit over what your spec needs!

Yeah, good advice mate. There'll doubtless be a raft of posters warning about the perils of buying cheap PSUs in due course...!

a power supply only draws what it needs, so if you hook up an intel atom to an 1100w psu, it won't draw more than if you hook it up to a pico-psu. buy a psu that's right, not one that's just enough.

or it could have been a faulty unit; ripple usually isn't a problem right away.

maybe they didn't test it properly after building it, or something came loose in transit.
