Just got my new Dell 2209WA monitor delivered today, which is the most awesome monitor I've ever used, but... On large areas of dark colour, there is a slight 'rippling' effect (sorry if that's not the most descriptive word, was all I could think of), with bands of a slightly lighter colour moving up and down. I'm hoping this is a common complaint and that monitor experts reading this will know what I mean...! So what I want to know is, what do I do about this?
It really must be the most awesome monitor you've ever used. I mean it's Dell!! (if it would be something else...)
If it was only delivered today give it a few days; it could just be a few points when the crystals have... settled as it were.
Was it cold when you fired it up? It could've gone a bit clumpy if it's been in a cold warehouse then a cold delivery van.
Just been doing a bit of experimenting, and I'm not sure how relevant this is but I thought I'd throw it in anyway: this only happens on very dark grey and green backgrounds; never 100% black, or dark red or blue. Is this likely to mean anything?
Some kind of interference perhaps? Try using a different monitor cable, give the VGA a go as well if you have a cable knocking around. Connect to another PC or laptop and see if the problem persists.
Yeah will give those a try when I get home tonight, thanks. It's currently connected by VGA as that's the only video output my laptop has. My secondary computer has DVI out so will give that a go.
I would think it would be because you have it hooked up via VGA - long cables, high resolutions and laptops with sub-standard VGA ports can all cause issues. One of my friends 24" screens, on being attached to his laptop via VGA, certainly took a turn for the worse in image quality.
Yep - It's the VGA cable - I have this with one of my cables. Try either a shorter cable, or a higher quality one (don't pay too much over the odds though!)
Cool stuff, I really hope it's as simple as that Thanks very much for your input guys. I'll let you know how I get on later tonight.
I have similar problems on a VGA only 22" panel. Same computer hooked up via dvi doesn't do it so id try to avoid vga if possible...
Hello again everybody... Good news! Managed to get my secondary computer which has DVI out up and running and the problems I described above are non-existent. Now all I need to do is get the thing set up to work full-time and I'll be sorted Thanks for the input guys and girls, much appreciated.
