Performance wise it looks pretty impressive but you have to admit it looks really cheap and that naff plastic red and black looks awful.

Do we have any confirmed dates yet on the GTX300 series?

    Duly noted. Thank you.

A 3.2GHz Core i7 should be enough! After all, how many people are NOT running Core i7s with tons of memory?

BTW Everyone: this is part 1 of 2. Tim is writing the architecture piece that will arrive sometime soon.

    Impar: LOL! Awesome

What's the availability going to be like for these cards? Novatech and ebuyer are showing very limited amounts of stock at the moment, so I'm wondering if ATI are keeping supply low to keep the price high, or are they just having production issues like they were with the 4770?

The 5870 x2 is going to be a monster from what i can see here...
I think ATi deserve some credit with the 5870 though, the power consumption per watt to FPS performance is pretty damn awesome when compared with say a gtx 285 - and that was the real chink in the armour with the 48xx series, they were overall hotter and hungrier than the green teams GPUs.

Now that issue seems to have been addressed in some way - its certainly looking good for the cards we've yet to see, and also, is making me look forward to the next few months, the notorious rivalry of ATi and Nvidia is only going to make life easier on the wallet for consumers.

As Bindi's said, Tim's indepth look at the architecture behind the 5870 will be coming soon, as will some more results for lower end cards for those running older systems - it's just testing all these games and cards takes a loooong time. Be assured though if you want to compare you're 8800GT and Q6600 to the I7 rig with an HD 5870 there's an article coming!

    Good review Mark, many thanks.

But usually doesnt Tim do the new cards and architecture review? I miss the Tim Smalley architecture synopsis that usually accompanies new GPU launches.

DO IT or the Felix Dennis doll gets it!!!

Heat and noise, people... I still need info on heat and noise. After all, that makes up a fairly significant portion of the buying decision. At least for me... :)
