Here's why this always works for those of you who care.

The function can be expressed as:

    (10x+y)-x-y

    Which can be rearranged to:

    10x-x+y-y

The Ys cancel, and 10x-x is simplified to 9x. Now, look at the table and note which numbers have the same symbol: 0 (don't know why it's on there, as the only way to get that is to pick a one digit number), 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81. What do these numbers have in common? They all divide by 9.

If you pick a number =>90, your result is 81
If you pick a number 90> and =>80, your result is 72
And so on and so forth

The magic square changes because the table changes and thus the symbol for the #'s divisionable by 9 changes. Is that why it seems as though the magic square seems to get some wrong?

If you're seeing incorrect results, its probably because your math skills suck. I have a feeling some of you may be doing two digit number - (first digit - second digit), which is not the same as two digit number - first digit - second digit.
