I hope this trend continues. Exclusive contract are one of the main reason I haven't picked up a new 3Gs.

Interesting – i had read a while ago that O2 were going to lose exclusivity but that Orange would only be allowed to sell the iPhone 3G and that O2 would retain exclusivity on the iPhone 3GS... Doesn’t seem to be any mention of that though.

This is brilliant news.. iPhone was not subsidized half as much as other top end phones which cost as much if not more than the iPhone... Hopefully it’ll cause a big price drop..

That explains why O2 will now be offering the HTC Leo.
It'll be interesting to see if the Xda line will be getting some more attention now.

Will orange be allowed to put all their branding crap on their iPhones though? The last thing you want is the Orange ******** smeared all over a nice iPhone...

I've got a contract with orange that ends on 9th October. Is it worth holding out till the iphone is released on orange and see if I get an upgrade package through orange..

    OR

Go with O2 for a iphone 3gs £87 upfront then £35 per month for 24 months?

It's one of those times where holding off is best.
But if you need an upgrade now you gots take it.

I think post Christmas will be the best time to buy it.

    Reasoning thus:

Orange say they will sell it by the end of the year.
If it was out soon they would have given a date.
If it comes out Back end of October or November you're in the Christmas phone pressie territory.
I that happens stock will be a major issue, low stock will keep prices high.

    so.

Wait to see when Orange get it (my guess is November)
    Check prices against O2
But wait until February if you can before you buy.

Sob. O2 ---> Orange calls and texts (for me) are a rip off. In some ways, it'd be good to have a price war. Cheaper iPhones and tarrifs would be great, BUT if o2 and Orange start competing then one is going to have worse customer service than the other and there's a chance that would be o2 (my network provider).

Will be upgrading to a iphone from my HTC HD although it will kind of feel like a down grade in some ways. Maybe by the time I switch handsets a new iphonw will be out.

Meh, I'm going to be getting a Pre this month anyway. iPhone was very tempting but I'm more in need of a 'getting things done' device which I believe the Pre happens to have edge in.

you will be surprised how little will change

in Poland, there have been two carriers selling subsidized 3G iphones since their launch, and the prices are almost identical - obscenely expensive

Why do i have the un-nerving feeling that all will happen is both Vodafone and Orange start selling the iphone at the same price and same contracts as O2, because Apple will have fixed it somehow as part of the agreement. then all the other phone companies can do as O2 have done and raise the price of other competing smart phone to the same price as the iphone as well.
Belive me I'll be very happy to see some reductions but I ain't holding my breath. I'd just like to be able to get the samsung galaxy at a reasonable price.
