Just wondered if anybody had any ideas?

I don't require any form of hardware RAID but I am considering using mdadm (on Ubuntu 9.10) to utilise its software RAID capabilities.

Would I best off getting a cheapo 3Gb/s SATA card like this and would it work with the onboard ports to create a large RAID 5?

Yes with a software array it should be able to use both onboard and addon cards in the array.

    That card should work fine.

    Thanks :thumb:

Though I've just started to think I can buy a new Mobo with 6 SATA ports for less than the price of that card :)
