Thanks but I'm more looking for more power rather than saving money because I don't have anything better to spend it on.
fair enough. but theres no point in wasting a whole lot of money if you can find the exact same thing cheaper somewhere else. Save the extra money for watercooling gear or something.
Ok this is what I came up with even though some of it is overkill I still want it i.e. keyboard and motherboard. Anyway heres the list Evga x58 classified (for 3x sli which i plan to use later on) 5870 Blu ray writer (overkill but I can afford it) 2 Samsung 2333sw (good price they are) i7 920 wd green 2tb g19 (looked at g15 but like the g19 better even for the price) g9x 6g kingston hyperx 1600mhz (yay or nay?) 1050w enermax revolution g.skill falcon II 64gb Total: $3666 That setup good or bad?
I'd still strongly, strongly advise against going 3-way SLI at any point in the future. It may have been worth it a couple of years ago, but it really isn't any more, which is why you see very, very few people running tri-SLI these days. You'll thank me when you see how horrible the driver support is for it. What is it you like so much about the G19 for it to be worth more than double the G15? You do realise the only difference between them is that the screen on the G19 is an LCD so you can watch YouTube videos on it, don't you? And would you really use that, considering you'll have 2 23" monitors in front of you. Honestly, the G15 does 99.9% what the G19 does, so is that 0.1% (which you'll probably never use) really worth an extra ~$100 to you?
I really don't like orange backlight and I want all my lights to match. Also not coloured screens annoy me a bit.
again, dont get the Green HD, get a Samsung F3 as SilverSilence posted or a WD Caviar. yay on the 6gb kingston 1600mhz RAM btw
since everyone strongly recommends the samsung F3 1Tb, would it be better to have two of them, rather than a single WD 2Tb drive?
The Samsung F3 1TB is faster than the WD Black 1TB, and it would be better to get 2 F3s if only because of the price, since the 2TB drive is almost double the cost per GB. The WD Green isn't any good because it's so slow (it's a 5400RPM drive, not 7200RPM IIRC).
look here http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2009/10/06/samsung-spinpoint-f3-1tb-review/3 and the next few pages of the article to compare the different drives. PCCG did have the F3's at one point (I bought one) but it seems they only have the F1s available at the moment. I think the F1s would still be better than the WD drive
I honestly don't know enough about RAID to recommend it or not. Either way, with two drives you can choose to use RAID or just seperate drives depending on what others (with more knowledge and experience than myself) recommend
