Hi guys! i would like to ask you about an optimal setting of the following config: asus p5b q6600 2x1g geil ultra pc6400 8800gts my goal is to use the ram with 900mhz that means how i read 2.2V 4-4-4-12. so how sould i set the voltages, and the fsb etc to reach the optimal running of the configuration. and because of the setting poor bios of the p5b i would like to ask about the usable programs too. 8800gts-s settings are not necessary, because its down and its in the service, i think they will give a newer card... i hope thanks a lot! rigo (i use windows 7)
Hi, welcome to the forums. First off there arn't really any programs that will give you decent overclocks for your CPU, the best and easiest way to do it is through the BIOS. To change these sort of setting you want to look for things like your mulitplier if its unlocked. Could you give us a little more info on the board (model number etc) as when I search for it, it brings back loads of results and I haven't got a clue which one is yours, but I expect that there is some sort of settings that you can change, most modern asus boards allow you too anyway. As for your 8800, if you did want to OC it the best option would probably be to use Nvidia ntune, or Riva Tuner, if you were bothered about that. Gaz

screw around with the fsb mate, move it up in small increments of about 10hz, and reboot into windows, and then run prime 95 for 5 mins, if its stable then reboot and move the fsb up again, and so on, until it becomes unstable during prime 95, then reboot and ad voltage to the cpu, only little by little as too much can damage the cpu. there is a sticky on here about overclocking the q6600 so you should read that really, it goes into masses of detail. peace fatman

What cooler are you using? With a decent coole a Q6600 G0 on a P5B should reach around 3.6GHz (3.7 if your lucky, 3.5 if unlucky with chip vid), probably needing around 1.5 to 1.525 volts if i remember correctly, and a little bit of extra voltage for the northbridge and fsb.
Not sure about the BIOS in that board, if it has GTL values for the CPU, set them to: GTL/0 - Auto GTL/1 - +40 GTL/2 - Auto GTL/3 - +40 CPU VCORE - depends on chip ( i persoanlly wouldnt go over 1.45 on air, unless you want intel SDS) CPU VFSB - 1.31x CPU PLL - 1.50v as for your RAM. check the specs for the modules you own, use slots 1 and 4 (yellow) Loosen the timings to 5-5-5-18-2T and tRFC to 55-60 See how far you can push them, keep the volts under 2.1-2.2 (again depends on the chips used in the modules)
cooler hi i have a cooler master hyper l3 cooler. (sad that my ex wife took the zalman 7000b cu for her mother...) ill take a few pictures of the bios pages, to look at the facilities soon. thanks again! and ill try out every suggestions, thx! i read somewhere this: 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2V = 900mhz. thats enough i think. but theres no way to set the timing in the bios.. is there any program for that? (i dont think so)
oc well.. i found the memory timing in bios. as i set the values to 4-4-4-12 and leave everything else default, it crashes xp with blue screen. so i think i let it be. i dont oc my computer... i wait a bit and buy a new gen pc an i7 with a dx11 card and with 24gb 2000mhz ram

(but cold about 35celsius) memory settings are: 2.25V cas latency - 4 RAS to CAS delay - 4 RAS precharge - 4 RAS activate - 12 write recovery time - 6 TRFC - 42 TRRD - 10 Rank write to read delay - 10 read to precharge delay - 10 write to precharge delay - 10 Static RC - Auto this gave 450mhz and FSB : DRAM was 2 : 3 and its still instable. so.. its a bit annoying after reading this thread: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=170506 any idea?
Honestly, it's the combination of: Andrew's processor is heavily water-cooled. He's using (I'd assume) an enthusiast overclocker's motherboard. "Your mileage may vary". Have you tried increasing your core voltage?
hi well actually my vga chrashed again. so thats for the oc again. i dont want to pull my cpu from 2.3ghz to 4.6, but only give a bit oc, like 3ghz or at most 3.2-3.3. i have zalman 9500 on the cpu. anyway... i wait again to a miracle to fix my card... msi rma is not working in europe.
You should be able to raise the FSB to 333mhz to OC to 3GHz, this can be done without touching voltages and on a stock intel heatsink, so anything better than a intel stock heatsink and your fine. To increase above 3Ghz, then your in the land of potential voltage increases to gain extra speed, i found with my Q6600 that i require an extra 0.05v just to get a stable boot at 3.2Ghz. We can only direct you in the right direction as every CPU and chipset is different so we cant get you are settings as they may cause more harm than good.
