Windows Now you've had windows 7 for 2 months...

What is your more educated opinion?

 

I've been using Windows 7 since the 7000 beta in Jan. Fantastic improvement over Vista and very easy and stable to use. No real complaints!

I've been Using the RC since release, gna let it run out then install win 7 (hopefully on a shiny new pc lol). I find it quite good too.

 

Agreed. Now I've theme patched it to make it look a little more grown up... I think it's the perfect OS.

One gripe/ When a window is in "list" view, and you click on an item on the right hand side of the window... rather than opening, or selecting.. it jumps to the left of the window, and then you have to click it again.

Annoying.

Other than that... all is well.

 

I've found the taskbar to be an issue(i hate the thick bar) and i tried fiddling with it so i'd have an old windows style quick launch bar instead of a pin-up thing and lost everything so now i launch using the index in the start menu .

 

great, no complaints so far, love it.

 

It's as close to a perfect OS as I think Microsoft are ever going to manage to do as they are always going to over simplify things, but at least 99% of the little annoyances in this version are easily fixable. Plus the new taskbar is a massive improvement over old styles although I do change it so that it only groups when the bar is full.

 

I love it. No complaints whatsoever.

 

Just theme patch it like I have, and download whatever custom theme takes your fancy.

That said I love vista and dont find it all that different tbh.

 

Likewise been using it for ages (<3 technet) but by far the best OS that MS have released to date. Don't like the standard taskbar but that's pretty trivial and easy to fix

UAC is no where near as annoying now days either... Ironic thing is that even during the RC's it was already more stable than Vista on my households PC's!

ran Vista for about a year, never had any issues with it, moved to 7 when the RC came out, and the system is just generally snappier and more responsive.

only big negative for me is that they still do not have support for a dual monitor taskbar, so I have to go to 3rd party software for that.

Nothing has changed, and so far as I know all the links and information is still current.

Just be careful replacing Shell32.dll and Explorer.exe

You'll need to take ownership of the files, and you'll probably not be able to replace explorer.exe while in windows... you may need to boot from a CD or recovery disk, or DOS to replace it in a command line.

Rename the old ones... don't delete them.

...and do a back up first!

Lol, it's quite confusing, i've done that patching thing but i'm kinda confused. Do i just replace the files i've got with the one's in the x86 folder? What is the location of the files to be replaced?
And yeah i can see what your saying about bricking the machine(only thing i care about is having to download a full 20gb+ of E:TW at a crippling slow rate of 200kb/s)
