    Helloo.

I got my new computer this morning and installed windows 7 using the product key which came with the disc. Do I have to active it online?
I am using an upgrade version but did a clean install :D
    ~Thanks

The easiest way is to activate it online but there should be a phone number also if this suits you better.

If it doesn't activate itself properly it will stop working after a month, however if you did the phone activation and they gave you a code this will satisfy its need for activation. But no, it doesn't necessarily HAVE to be online.

Its not activated then. All you have done is installed it.

You forgot to mention the fact that you're using an upgrade version.

I have never used an upgrade version, but don't you need the product key from the version you are upgrading from (In addition to the one that came with the disk)?

What's the problem with online activation anyway?

I got a new computer and was told I could do a fresh install with an upgrade version aslong as it is a fresh/clean install. I dont have an old key to use unless I use the one off an old XP machine of mine

You can do a fresh install with an upgrade, as long as you have keys for both the original windows version and 7.

I told you so on X3F mate. You don't need a previous version INSTALLED, but you still need to have the license for a previous version.

On a new computer the best is to go for OEM license. It's cheaper and you don't need an old license.
