I have one of those exact same screens I'm using in a current project :D
I managed to power mine from the 12 volt rail, feeding through a few diodes to drop the voltage to about 8 volts - and that worked fine :thumb:

Thanks StEm! I will try, as always :cooldude:

Yeah? I would love to know what you used if you wouldn't mind PMing me. I always prefer building it myself over buying :) In the end of things I am going to try and get as many of the electronics onto the same board as possible, that will definitely help. Thanks Azayles!

The screen's currently going in a scratch build I'm doing. Only reason I not posted it yet is 'cause I'm waiting on new parts and there was a four week lead time on the new mobo I ordered from mini-itx.com :waah:
Once I get it powered up I'll let you know :D:thumb:
Alternatively, an adjustable voltage regulator, such as an LM317, will give you a more accurate voltage for the screen. :)

Ouch, that is a long wait! Thanks for the tips, I will look into it further to power my screen :)

I finally got some better cap screws-

I countersunk the holes so the screws lay flat on the outside panels. There is a reason for this that we will see later :baby:

I started out using the tray that was leftover from my other project

Using the ol' portable workbench and a hammer as the poorest man's bend brake :hehe: The bend will need some hammering to straighten out the dents.

To make it fit, the motherboard plate itself was notched on both ends so the bottom plate would wrap around the back

Using some of those nifty tapered cap screws to attach it to the mobo tray and backplate. The front of the plate was not quite right, I will need to think about how to correct it. I might remake this part when I get a real bend brake eventually.

Kaiten X was nominated for Mod of the Month!! :jawdrop:

I want to say thank you to the Bit-Tech staff, and all of you for watching my log.
Even if Kaiten X doesn't claim ultimate victory, it is still an honor to be nominated, thank you everyone!:clap::clap:

Work continues, though slowly because of work, hopefully I should have some new updates coming soon!:cooldude:

How about an update? It has been longer than I would have liked:sigh:

First thing is first, I have gone back and put some polish on the whole long with new graphics, just to tidy it up a bit. Still working on some of the pics but I think it is looking a whole lot more unified.

Now, on to more of the Kaiten X Saga!

It was time to tackle a part that I had been dreading a bit, simply because it was a complex one: the drive pod.

If you remember, originally I designed it like this with only 2 drives in a diagonal orientation-

I was not happy with this as it seemed like it was wasting a lot of usable space. When I rebuilt the front and back plates I actually made Kaiten X just a little bigger, so I decided to redesign it.

A paper template of what I was thinking

I chopped both rails out of a Lian Li V2000 side panel

Drives mounted with rubber O rings for vibration control

Marked out where the laptop CD/DVD drive will go between the rails

    Through the rails

I fabbed up a little bracket to hold it in place, it still needs a hole cut out for the drives cables

Work continues on affixing the new drive pod rails to the rest of the chassis, but so far so good! There is still a cover piece in development as well. This arrangement allows Kaiten X to be fully functional instead of without a CD drive. There should be room there as well for an SSD drive down the road as well.

And, a little teaser for next time ;)

Right you are St3ph! These are just some old IDE drives I keep for mockup purposes, the real drives will be SATA drives, preferably WD VeliciRaptor's in RAID 0 :)

Awesome mod so far. I really like your design for this mod. Besides the coping saw and dremel. What other tool(s) are you using to cut your aluminum with mainly the larger cuts?

Thanks shakka65! Aside my coping saw and dremel, I have used a normal hand drill, a bandsaw for the bigger cuts, and about 20 files of different size.

lol, it sounds like it would be fast, where can I get that?

    Thanks WolfandAngel!
